Nearly three months since last post. You are going to purchase a next-gen console this weekend. Price difference is no concern. Which console do you get and why?

PS4. I owned the One at launch until I traded it in for the PS4 a couple of weeks ago. I enjoy the Playstation a lot more than I did the Xbox.

PS4.

More powerful, better exclusives (in my opinion), 3rd party games look and run better on PS4, more gaming focused, better freebies with PS Plus, etc. Plus I like the PS4 user interface better than Xbone's "windows 8" inspired tile-based UI, etc.

Note: If you do decide on PS4 you might want to make sure you can find one. They're still in high demand and may not be as easy to find in stores as the Xbone.

Thanks for the responses. I used to be a PS person. I had the PS1 and PS2, then I switched over to the 360. I know it doesn't matter from a gaming experience since you can't play older titles on either platform, and I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I'm primarily looking for multimedia interface and DVD/bluray storage to make the wife happy and get rid of much of our collection of discs.

I sold my PS4 and got the XBone Titianfall bundle. Hell of a game. Both are great but all my friends are on X1. Both have their pro's and con's. I mostly play 2K14 and I think the graphics look better on the ps4 for that game. I think the PS4 is better if you are strictly going to play games, but I think for the multimedia stuff you should get the xbox one. I think your wife would like it better.

Sounds like the XB1 is the one for you, which leans more towards the multimedia side. The PS4 is a better gaming machine (and what I easily prefer now after being an Xbox fan-boy for a long time), but you can't go wrong with either.

Any exclusives move you? Titanfall is fun, but my 2 friends with XB1 have already quit playing. Still they are (me too) bored with CoD derivative shooters, so if you're not it might be a must play. That said I give the second one a 80% chance it will come to the PS4 (the install base is too large for EA to ignore). What about Halo or Forza? Or Quantum Break (this game is the one I'm going to miss the most not having an XB1)? What about on the PS4 side with things like Infamous (the new is awesome), Grand Turismo, or any game that is made by Naughty Dog (Uncharted and Last of Us)?

Also one advantage for the PS4 is most 3rd party games are not only currently better (resolution or fps wise), but look to continue to be better. The PS4 should end up being the console of preference for games like Destiny and Witcher 3 (the 2 games I am looking forward to the most).

That said if none of the gaming stuff I mentioned to you means anything really to you go with XB1.

Funny while 90% of my friends were just on XBL last generation, I now only have 2 friends with XB1s, and over 10 with PS4s. It flipped (and I'm glad it did).

To be clear I hope to get an XB1 one day myself. I am waiting for a re-design (the current box is too big and looks like a TIVO box) 2 or 3 years down the road.

Same here. I didn't "hate" the One. I just felt like the PS4 was a better investment for right now. I'll probably get a One when the lower the price and after a possible redesign of some sort.

PS4 will in all likelihood always be my primary console but I want an Xbone primarily for Forza and Halo, though Quantum Break looks very interesting as well. I just don't have a lot of faith that Polyphony is going to bring Gran Turismo back to greatness and I like Forza a lot. By far my favorite Xbox exclusive!

The same with me. I really like Titanfall and Forza on the Xbox One, but the PS4 will be my main gaming machine.

The thing about getting an Xbox for me right now is I hate the idea of paying 100.00 more for less performance. Putting all fanboyism aside, there are two absolute irrefutable facts in regards to Xbone and PS4. 1.) The PS4 is more powerful and 2.) It's 100.00 cheaper. Those are FACTS and no, the Kinect being packed in is absolutely no consolation to me because I would never buy the damn thing in the first place! I am really hoping MS announces a 399.99 Kinect-less sku at E3.

You could have gotten the Titanfall bundle for $450. Not much difference in price, at that point, between the systems. But, if you had no interest in Titanfall, I can see how it wouldn't be as appealing.

Also, saw that Sams sells the X1 for $447 now days.

This was my logic too. I traded in my 360 (I had two) and some games and ended up paying only $397 dollars after tax for the Titanfall bundle and Nba2k. It was a no brainer

There are claims that Dx12 will double the performance of the xb1. I'll belive it when I see it.

That's...A bit of a pipe dream. I'm sure it will improve performance in some areas, probably improve coding efficiency to take better advantage of the Xbone's capabilities and what not. However no programming SOFTware is going to magically solve HARDware deficiencies. I'm sure PS4's programming tools will continue to be refined to boost performance as well so there is always going to be a performance gap between the two consoles. That's either hyperbole being spewed by MS or wishful thinking by Xbox fans.

The fact the XB1 has already dropped it's price this early in the cycle means something was trending very bad for the XB1 (Sony sales I guess).

Is this the fast price drop in console history?

Well TECHNICALLY the X1 hasn't received an official price drop yet. All of these bundles and deals certainly add more value to the purchase but they are limited editions. If you walk into any retailer and buy an X1 core system you're going to pay 499.99.

Oh I know that, but still my question stands about a price drop (official or unofficial) this early into a console life? I can't think of any console doing this.
