Thanks for the responses. I used to be a PS person. I had the PS1 and PS2, then I switched over to the 360. I know it doesn't matter from a gaming experience since you can't play older titles on either platform, and I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I'm primarily looking for multimedia interface and DVD/bluray storage to make the wife happy and get rid of much of our collection of discs.
Sounds like the XB1 is the one for you, which leans more towards the multimedia side. The PS4 is a better gaming machine (and what I easily prefer now after being an Xbox fan-boy for a long time), but you can't go wrong with either.
Any exclusives move you? Titanfall is fun, but my 2 friends with XB1 have already quit playing. Still they are (me too) bored with CoD derivative shooters, so if you're not it might be a must play. That said I give the second one a 80% chance it will come to the PS4 (the install base is too large for EA to ignore). What about Halo or Forza? Or Quantum Break (this game is the one I'm going to miss the most not having an XB1)? What about on the PS4 side with things like Infamous (the new is awesome), Grand Turismo, or any game that is made by Naughty Dog (Uncharted and Last of Us)?
Also one advantage for the PS4 is most 3rd party games are not only currently better (resolution or fps wise), but look to continue to be better. The PS4 should end up being the console of preference for games like Destiny and Witcher 3 (the 2 games I am looking forward to the most).
That said if none of the gaming stuff I mentioned to you means anything really to you go with XB1.
I sold my PS4 and got the XBone Titianfall bundle. Hell of a game. Both are great but all my friends are on X1.
Funny while 90% of my friends were just on XBL last generation, I now only have 2 friends with XB1s, and over 10 with PS4s. It flipped (and I'm glad it did).
To be clear I hope to get an XB1 one day myself. I am waiting for a re-design (the current box is too big and looks like a TIVO box) 2 or 3 years down the road.
