Just curious, but does anyone know what sort of things result in a permaban on XBL? Has anyone here ever had it happen, and if so for what? Once again this just seems like outrage simply because being pissed at MS is the en vogue thing right now. Obviously it would suck to lose your purchases, but I feel like if you aren't egrigiously running afoul of the law, this would never come into play. In short, if you aren't doing something wrong, there's zero chance this ever happens to you. If you buy an Xbox and still do stuff knowing it could result in a permaban, then your so stupid that you pretty much deserve whatever consequences come your way.
I had an account get banned. I don't know what I did wrong. They just dropped the hand of God on me and disappeared into the night.

It's still dumb. Why should I lose all of my games because I like dropping heightist slurs at my opponents?
That's the point I was trying to distinguish. If you actually forfeit purchases for getting an ACCOUNT ban, which can result from the kind of things you described, then this is stupid. If you lose you purchases for a CONSOLE ban, which can pretty much only be brought about by either hacking or piracy, then I don't see the big deal. Just for those not in the know, per the Xbox website, these are the things that are considered grounds for a CONSOLE ban...
- Console tampering: Physically opening the Xbox and modifying it to play illegitimate software.
- Online fraud: Attempting to social engineer users, take over Xbox LIVE accounts, or other fraudulent activities.
- Repeat egregious violations: Multiple actions taken on accounts on the console by the Enforcement team for disrupting the service or impacting users
