Very little noticeable between 480i of the composite and either 720p or 1080i of component?!?! Seriously?

I am using component on my regular xbox b/c it looks much better in 480p than 480i. C'mon!

Also, if I remember correctly, the HDMI pro version has upgraded heatsinks for the GPU, so the red rings of death should be (hopefully) less prevalent.

Thx for this tip. I read similar on the GameStop Board. They also said the Pro's cardboard box has a HDMI sticker on it. They also said to beware because some stores are selling off the old models--the ones w/o the h/sinks.

I'll prob try and get a new Pro model with the HDMI port & sinks.

New units in stores actually have HDMI printed on the box along with composite and componenet and vga on the side of the box. Zephry is also listed on the seriel code sticker. First batch they used up all the old boxes, then switched to the new boxes with HDMI printed on the side.

So, there's actually some units out there with HDMI in the old boxes. Just check the seriel number sticker if they don't have any with HDMI on the side.

Thx for the extra tip on the s/n sticker!

Finally bought my Pro 360 from BestBuy. Brought it home and..

1. Powered up--sometimes.
2. Tray opened sometimes.
3. Would never play a disc.

Returned it and the replacement is working fine. Gee, one would think MS would have this piece of equipt' to perfection.

My 360 is from the first batch and it just now starting to show it's age. The disc tray is hanging up 80% of the time, but the 2nd attempt always works. :dunno: I will be happy with it if it last a few more months.

The first release was REALLY bad. Not to say that some of those units aren't working even now... but the defect rate was insane.

My elite is working well, no problems. The only complaint I have is that it is still a little loud. :ermm:

For watching videos off my computer, I'm going to continue to use my modded xbox with XBMC. The 360 just can't compete on that level... of course, I had to get a switch box to hook it all up b/c my TV only has two component connections for HD signals...

You should go ahead and replace it under the extended warranty before that runs out. Did they extend to 2 or 3 years?

3 years from date of purchase. Within one year you can take it to the store you bought it from, and they have to replace it. For the two years following, MS will send you a box, and then a refurb unit once they recieve the junker.

mine is from first batch as well. But has always frozen up quite a bit. Never had a problem with disc tray hanging up. I predict within two or three years it will be dead. And I'm pretty positive I can't get a warranty on it

Is there any other cards that will work for the 360? I payed about $100 for three nic cards for the comps, geez 90 bucks for the adapter.

Is it possible for you to put your modem and router next to the xbox? Have it wired. The rest will hop on wirelessly.

Geeks are sexy :ermm:

The link is interesting. Evidently there is an open source firmware for routers that use a specific chipset... this firmware allows the router to act as a bridge instead of as a router.

The neat part is that often you can find some of these at CompUSA or other store with rebates, etc. which bring their cost into the $20 range... much cheaper than units sold AS a bridge. :)

Does anyone have any idea why my 360 gets disc read errors when I play NCAA 07 or 08 and NBA Live 07? It only happens when I play EA games and it really pisses me off. Does anyone have any idea why it does this?

what is the difference between gold and silver? is silver free or do they both cost something? i know all of you say the $50 a year is way worth it but i was just wondering

silver is the one where you can download content from the marketplace such as demos, videos, arcade games, etc. it's free.

gold is the one that you need to play with people online. it has a fee, although i think that you get a free month of gold when you first get a 360. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
