I think that my GPU may have gone out today..I was playing NCAA 09 and the shading on the field turned neon green instead of dark green and the crowd picked up the same crazy green tones. Before I could quit the game, I started getting a few "flickers" with horizontal lines popping up on the screen (like a loose cable wire or something). I shut off the box, turned the component cables from HD to standard and back, turned the box back on, and no picture - but I do have sound. So...does this sound like the GPU? If so...how big of a problem is it. I got my 360 two years ago come November....

Looks like that is the problem and it will cost about 100 bucks to get it fixed ship it and get another year of warranty on it. Happened to me about a month ago. If you are under warranty still, don't think you will unless you bought an extended warranty, then it will be free.

wrap it up in towel or trash bag and get the whole unit to overheat. Get the red rings of death and you'll get it replaced for free from MS. Or, just call up support and tell them it's doing the 3 red rings. Tell them you've tried eveything and they'll ship you a box.

So, does the GPU not give any combination of red rings to indicate this error? The LEDs look the same as always on the front...I wish there were some sort of error code that it would generate so that I would know this is what my problem is....

This sounds very similar to what just happened to mine a couple of weeks ago. My screen started to look like the matrix and you could barely see. Luckily, my Box is still under the microsoft warranty, so it's not going to cost anything. I don't really have any pertinent information for you, just trying to give some support. It's sucks when the Box breaks bad. :ermm:

I will say that mine had one red ring in the low right quadrant and the error message was E74.

Thanks, OWB...I need some support right now :). I do find it weird that I'm not seeing any error indications.

Does anyone know why my XBOX is giving me the old "IP address failed" thing? I can't connect to live at all because of this. It's happened before, but it seems to come and go. I'm hoping someone here can help so I don't have to call them....

Typically it means that your XBOX isn't getting a valid IP from you router or modem.

1. I would turn everything off that is connected your router.
2. Turn off the router and your modem. (unplug). Leave them off for around 10 seconds.
3. Plug in your modem first and let it sync up.
4. After the modem has synced, then turn on your router and let it initialize.
5. Once it is done doing it's setup then power the XBOX only back on and try and connect.

Yeah thanks man, that might do it. Unfortunately, I don't feel like powering down everything tonight. I'll try it tomorrow though.

That happened to me once and it was just a problem with the service provider. If your internet is working and that isn't then I don't know though.

It's just strange, in only happens once in a blue moon really. Everything is working fine today. Would it make any sense if I said that it seems like my laptop causes this problem? Because when my laptop is in the room and running, that makes 3 computers using the internet at once, my PC, laptop and XBOX all being in the same room.

That kicks my friend off when he's using his laptop and playing Live. I use a cable straight into my 360 so I wouldn't know what to do with wireless.

One thing I like to do is get my router to assign IPs based on MAC address. The computer thinks it is getting a dynamic IP via DHCP, but the router will always assign that network adapter the same IP. :)

I recently had my xbox shipped out for a repair. When I got it back, it obviously had reset most of my settings. How do I set it to sign my profile in once I boot it up? I can't find that setting anywhere after they changed the dashboard.

press the button in the middle of your controller to bring up the "quick menu", and then go to the blade farthest to the right that has "preferences, system settings, etc." i'd say if it's anywhere its somewhere along there.

I think it's the dashboard update because mine stopped doing that as well.

mine still signs in automatically as well. To answer your original questions, you will find it if you follow duckman's directions
