Jim Ross Is Set To Make His MMA Announcing Debut

This time last year, Stone Cold Steve Austin was telling Ariel Helwani that UFC should hire legendary WWE play-by-play man Jim Ross. Today, that request gets one step closer to becoming a reality: Good Ol’ J.R. is set to make his MMA play-by-play debut at the upcoming Battleground MMA pay-per-view alongside … oh God, Chael Sonnen?

From MMA News:

The WWE Hall Of Fame announcer “Good Ole’ JR” will team up with “The Gangster from West Linn, Oregon” Chael Sonnen for the event that is scheduled to take place in JR’s home-state of Oklahoma on October 3rd.

Ross and Sonnen will handle the play-by-play duties for the event, which features Ryan Couture (8-3), son of UFC legend Randy Couture, challenging Jonny “King of Late Night” Carson (11-6) in the main event.

Also scheduled for the event is an exciting eight-man tournament in the Welterweight division, one that is filled with former UFC and Strikeforce veterans. The tourney consists of Dennis Hallman (53-15-2), Brock Larson (37-8), Roan Carneiro (17-9), Luigi Fioravanti (24-11), Cody McKenzie (15-4), David Mitchell (14-4), Trey Houston (10-2) and Chris Honeycutt (4-0).

I’d spend three hours listening to Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen talk about what they had for breakfast, so we’ll consider the fighting a bonus.

I have no doubt that JR will pull it off. Back in the XFL days, I actually thought JR did a good job with football.

I'll be honest, I didn't know Lana and Rusev were an item.

Being on the road so much tends to lead to the male and female talent dating amongst each other. They don't see other people enough to maintain successful relationships. Just a by-product of a traveling job.

I get that. I just didn't know the Lana and Rusev set.

Have you guys ever watched ROH? It isn't bad, I think it is better than TNA well thats not saying much I guess but you know what I mean.

I used to go to ROH shows a lot back around 04 to 07ish. Last one I went to was in Atlanta during Mania weekend.

Always had a blast. Haven't watched in quite a while though.

If I do catch bits and pieces now, I still love the wrestling. Storylines are just meh.

You might like PWG too.

every single thing he said is just an in-your-face reminder. Like, "oh yeah, THAT'S why he will forever be a face."

People also thought that about Hogan though, i still don't see Cena ever turning though.

On JR's podcast he talked about why it wouldn't make sense for Cena to turn. He said it would make some of the fans happy but the adults wouldn't buy Cena shirts and wrist bands and hats, they would miss out on sooooooo much money just to please a handful of people.

I know everyone already knows all of that though lol.

The amount of times I've mentioned the #1 reason anti-turn being merch is innumerable. #2 is the good deeds he does with Make-A-Wish.

As for the Hogan comparison, #2 takes more of a precedence. Also, he doesn't turn if he's with the WWF. He could turn in WCW because it was more conducive to the emergence of the bad guys.

If Cena bothers you, just wait until the next Lesnar opponent. I can only think of one logical face opponent.

I read today that it's probably gonna be Big Show. Gotta wait until Rumble to start up the Reigns feud.

I know who is rumored to be next. Just not sure we're on the same page. The rumored next opponent is a 100% Vince McMahon special. Guaranteed to bring about as much interest from the fans as watching paint dry.
