WVU's D Line

Hate to break it to you, but this is a completely different Dline this year. We got 2 talented transfers one is a former 5 star recruit who is gonna man the middle and eat up blockers and the other speed rusher from Clemson who was buried behind 4 future NFL draft picks. We also have a high 4 star freshman in the mix. You guys need to do some research before you look silly. if I have to read how we were 7 and 6 last year so we can't possibly be that good I'm gonna rip my hair out, we were right in the big 12 title race and then Will Grier ( touchdown Jesus ) got hurt. Now ok prolly still beats us but with Grier we wax Texas and win our bowl. Look at the jump every qb makes in their second year in Dana holgersons system. This game isn't going to be close.... Now I like you guys, always root for tenn against any team in the SEC except Bama , I root for Saban bc of his wv blood. I'm just getting a little annoyed at you guys for short changing wvu. You talk about wvu like we are Marshall. Wvu is a top 25 program, we will always have a seat at the big boy table. When the trash big 12 goes by by the SEC or ACC will be right there to scoop us up. Look at all the regional games and past and future rivalrys it just makes to much sense.
Between this post and your other one that states: "Lmao really? Wvu has way more talent then Tenn and has for the better part of 15 years." I really dont think you know what you're talking about or even want to.. Sad attempt at being a troll or clueless. You pick

Completely different D-line? Big boy table? Touchdown Jesus? Game won’t even be close?

Lulz..

They gave up 409 points in 13 games about 32 a game. They scored 449 or 35 a game. I think we'll score keeping them from scoring will decide who wins. Their offense is how they win their defense wasn't any better than ours last season.

Tennessee has a new coaching staff, new defensive scheme, new players, so that's what everyone is calling a weakness, along with players coming back from injuries, so I guess I see where the skepticism is coming from, but West Virginia has transfers and a freshman on their defensive front, so these guys are also learning a new system. Don't see how the two situations are any different. Only thing I don't know is, does West Virginia have a new defensive coordinator, or is it the same one who has been there?

I watched the Heart of Dallas bowl where Utah pushed WVs Oline around pretty easily. Pac12 lines aren’t the most beastly by any means. I know Tennessee has a bare minimum of bragging rights coming into this season, but just size vs size is a big indicator of who’s going to win the LOS battle, and Tennessee has larger guys on both lines.

I think if Smith and another big guy can get push on the left side of the Oline...we can run behind them all day. WVs linebackers are the size of SEC safeties, so, if big boys like Banks or London can get to the second level, they could just bulldoze over those guys all day.

While I'm in your corner on this post, we have had our arses handed to us by smaller DLs. Appy State comes to mind,.

It’s what happens when you have horrible coaching. They beat our OL like a rented mule that night.

Yep, when you practice goofy strategies instead of actually learning how to be an o-lineman that is what happens but hopefully the o-line can actually learn some decent fundamentals between now and September

Didn't think about it but both of these DL's are coming from 4-3 programs. There will be a learning curve playing in WVU's "trick" D.

Yeah. But that was the same era that our guys were actually being coached to line up 1.5 yards off the line of scrimmage too lolol.

I have just a bit more faith in Rocker and Pruitt to get out guys back to using the most basic of fundamentals. Lol.

App St was able to watch film on us and did. When our game plan matched our film, they were able to jump our plays because they knew what was coming.

WV does not have the luxury of film or a known stale game plan. They are in the dark. Their only hope is every player on our team is overrated. That’s not the case.

Especially since some of their defensive coaches (Dale Jones) were also on staff when App St. Beat Michigan and the OC for Michigan was none other than M. Debord.

2 transfers that could not start at the other schools there D-Line may be a little better but overall they are not that good have a linebacker that is good and there secondary is not good at all been watching this team for years and live here in wv and go to games every yr. there offense is good and if we control the clock and run the ball down there throats utilize dwa a lot and should be okay. Fall behind too far might be tough for us to play catch up. I will be there and hope for the best

We have more raw talent on the field at every position. We've had all summer to prepare. New coach. New attitude. They have a better "team". Wil Grier is a "known". Our defense can plan around him. I think West Virginia plays a good game but we end up beating them soundly.

I don't think UT has more talent at the QB position. UT doesn't have the proven talent at WR though I'd say UT's athleticism there is much better and deeper. Everywhere else... UT has better athletes. The question is what can Pruitt do with them.

And as for Grier... watch the Oklahoma State game. That's the blueprint. OSU's DL was able to stop WVU's run and pressure Grier. Grier had 12 INT's on the season. OSU's pressure forced 4 in that one game @ WVU. The score was not reflective of OSU's domination. WVU got 2 non-offensive TD's on a blocked punt and a pick 6. One of the offensive TD's occurred late in the game after OSU started playing soft to run the clock out. One of the others came on a rather poorly thrown 50/50 ball that the DB mistimed then fell down on. OSU prevented WVU from having their "dink and dunk" sustained, fast break drives. They put their CB's in man much of the game and pretty much took Sills V out of the equation. They disguised their D's well and gave Grier a lot of confusing looks.

Honestly... their DC was pretty brilliant in that game.

How is WVu always gonna have a seat at the Big Boy table when they haven’t even made it to the big boy table yet. And the sec doesn’t want you, you’ll go to the ACC just like va tech. You lost 5 of your top 7 tacklers from the previous year, and that defense was crappy too. So that leads Tenn fans to the conclusion that the wvu defense is trash until proven otherwise. Don’t let that preseason ranking give you false hope, y’all will be exposed this year.

While I say UT wins both battles in the trenches, offensively and defensively. MAYBE you should do your homework first. I am not sure about them being starters. But, the WVU line has 2 360lb guys and 2-3 330lb guys. Those are some big boys. However, they will be slow. UT's D can blow right past them!!! =)

The only thing this thread proves is that WVU has many questions about a revamped def line and the Vols (as seemingly always) have questions with a revamped and injury recovering off line.
Charlotte should answer some questions for both teams when the Vols have the ball.

Watched this game too...score didn’t reflect the domination of Okie St...

Grier is accurate with time...but, the competitor in him, throws it up for grabs when heat is applied and frustration sets in...

We won’t be outmanned at the LOS...thus, I think we have a great chance to win this game...
