The expectation is, that Vinson and O'Neal will be named the starter the week after UT loses to Florida and then go on to play like All-SEC wr's the rest of the year.

Who is Ainge working with on routes and timing right now? Any spys picking up any good info?

CTT said last year that his plan was to have three guys as the wide receivers. I expect him to have the same plan. Those guys should be working with EA right now (like the three last year did at this time).

That seems like a pretty realistic prediction. However, I think O'Neal will be in the top 3 for the Cal game.

Gerald Jones or Kenny O'Neal will return punts, I don't think the coaches will take the chance of Hefney.

We'll see. Highly doubtful IMO that they would make the mistake of letting a true freshman return punts (a la Taylor) again.

O'Neal will be a return man though

I'm pretty sure Gerald Jones will be better than Taylor.

Really? You think? I'm not talking about talent, I'm talking about being a freshman. How many guys in high school played in front of 100 thousand plus?
Hefney, Taylor, and Jakouri Williams all fumbled punts as freshmen.

Let experience play over unproven commodities. As the season goes on, Jones or Berry might get a chance. But starting the season, Hefney will be the punt returner

So being a freshman makes you fumble punts?? Seems to me that there are a lot of upper class kids and even guys in the NFL that muff punts... I'm not going to buy that freshman crap... Adrian Peterson was a freshman and was the runner up in the heisman... If your a special player then your a special player.. Mr. Jones is a special player. He is as good as anybody on UT's roster when it comes to returning punts and kicks.. The key is catching the ball.. If you can catch a punt of a high school punters leg then you can catch anything... As far as the people running at you, you can wither do or you cant and Gerald is not gun shy he will stnad there and make sure he secures the ball.. I have worked with for hrs upon hrs at returning kicks and punts, I've had to ice the old leg many days after practice... He's ready to go, I promise you guys that..

Just saying, UT's track record with freshmen punt returners aren't great and Hefney is the incumbent there.

Questioning Gerald, no at all. Questioning the special teams coaching yes.

Well if your most explosive returners are freshman you have to put them out there.. Sometimes you have to take chances in order for big plays to happen... If Berry, Gerald, O'neal and Vinson are the best guys for the job they should be there...

Hargrave plays against mostly D1 JV squads. Vinson had 350+ all purpose yards against WVU's JV. Most preps aren't that good, but Hargrave is a different beast all together. There is a reason that most high D1 recruits that go to prep choose them.

Prep football might not impress you as much, but the level of high school football Vinson participated in might. He did exceptionally well in high school before he left for prep school. The Peninsula District(Hampton Roads VA) is loaded with talent year in and year out. I can list numerous young men on current NFL and NBA rosters from Vinson's high school district.

Agreed but it hasn't always worked that way.
