Wr Trouble

So you like him over Hancock right now ?

If I based my judgements about our players on the Orange and White games, Jabari Davis and Ja'Kouri Williams would be some of the best UT tailbacks in quite awhile. I'll wait until Hancock outplays Lucas Taylor in actual games before I say he's better.

Here's a fact: No WR on UT's roster has more catches than Taylor.

That's like being the beauty queen in Boaz, Alabama.

That's understandable. I just don't understand why anyone bothers to criticize Taylor when there isn't a player on the team that's proven he can outplay him.

what exactly has Taylor done to impress you? The most memorable/impressive thing for me is not a catch, its a pass vs Florida last year. He has great speed and all that good stuff, but I don't think he is a very reliable WR at all. When the freshmen get here and get some experience, he will be an afterthought.

They were good in high school. :birgits_giggle:

Bottom line is Lucas Taylor has proven more than any of the receivers we will have by the time we go to Cal, except for maybe O'Neal.

They probably subscribe to the theory that they've already seen that Taylor can't play. They're holding out hope for the new guys.

That's true. He has proven he can lose a game to Alabama by fumbling a punt. The new guys haven't shown that skill yet.

I haven't seen any indication that he can't play WR. I'm not dying to see him return punts again, but he performed alright in the limited WR action he saw last year.

My thinking on this isn't "what have they done to impress me" but more of "what have they done to umimpress me". Taylor has did plenty of the latter and not enough of the former. The newcomers haven't impressed me in Orange yet, but they haven't unimpressed me either.

We will see what they can and can't do once they get to UT. I don't think Taylor is the best WR team, and honestly, I don't think he'll ever start. I just think it's crazy that these freshman are held in such high regard when they haven't played a down of college ball.

That isn't a fun way to lose.

I actually respect your opinion, so I won't argue with you too much. However, after seeing so many at Volnation bow at the altar of Demetrice Morley, I'm determined not to give a recruit too much credit. I've got high hopes for these incoming receivers, but I'm not reserving them a spot in the UT Hall of Fame.

As I said, I think people have made their minds up on Taylor. That's why they prefer the new guys. They haven't failed yet.

I'll agree that putting a true freshman at punt return is probably not the greatest idea, unless you have Reggie Bush on your team. To me, all that proves is that he isn't a skilled return man. Meachem and Swain weren't either.

Also, there are about 60 players you could blame that Bama loss on. It's not like the Vols were playing great and Taylor just blew it.

That's another problem. I think a judgement on Taylor at this point is premature. But if people want to make up their minds, so be it. It seems that people have also already made up their minds that the incoming WRs will all be first round draft picks. The situation reminds me too much of Demetrice Morley.

I have absolutely no problem with that. There's a big difference between that and saying that a guy sucks and you can't wait until he graduates. I know you haven't said that, but there has been plenty of it around here.

Comparing a guy who touched the ball 14 times as a receiver last year to a RB and how many fumbles they had is ludicrous. The guy had just over 1 touch per game as a receiver. I know we had other guys ahead of him but he has proven nothing. Yes I, acknowledge he had a touchdown in the OW game, let's make him king.

Man Lucas Taylor straight gets hammered around here man.

After the smoke clears........ L Taylor is on the team and his critics are in the stands. I'm sure he is not concerned what the band geeks have to say about him.
