WR/TE/ST coaches

Helton will most likely be OC/TE coach like you said. As an OC I will be shocked if he coaches ST. Weinke will most likely be QB coach.

Maybe Thompson can coach ST and LB's? Or it might be by committee on the coaching staff.

Helton was named 2016 QB coach of the year. I'd hate to think we'd waste that asset, focusing it instead on TEs. Just hire a TE/ST coach instead. Or a WR/TE coach. Weinke will not be an official coaching staff member as far as I can tell. As I understand, he'll be a Quality Control Analyst, or some other type ancillary position.

I'm sure Coach Pruitt checks in this thread several times a day to find names of the coaches he should hire. Surprised no one has brought up Trooper Taylor :eek:lol:

Don't forget strength and conditioning coach, which I have no clue

Whatever happened to that Lou Ferrigno-looking fellow we had as S&C in the 80's, Bruno Pauletto? Our offensive linemen seemed to effortlessly sling around Miami's d-linemen in the '86 Sugar Bowl. He may still live in the Knoxville area, or at least his company is still around.

Weinke wanted to come to UT last season but didn't get the job. Nobody thinks he's ready for OC. Has to earn his stripes and he's lost in a sea of analysts at Bama.

This is what I’m thinking.

OC/QB: Helton
RB: Gillespie
WR: Unknown
TE: Unknown
OL: Friend
DC: Sherrer
DL: Rocker
OLB: Rumph
ILB : Unknown
DB: Fair
ST: Unknown
QC/Analyst: Weinke

Still room for two more coaches. Thomas, Niedermayer, Watson, etc are all off-field guys. They don’t count against the 10.

One name for ILB coach... Al Wilson. All time great, amazing motivator, Tennessee guy. No brainer.

Don’t the number increase to 11 in January? Thought I’d heard the NCAA was mulling over the idea of 1 more coach...

Are we not going to have a designated QB coach? I'd rather someone putting all their attention on developing the QB's rather than both the OC and OB coach.

Man I can't believe they let Pruitt bring his friend to coach the OL

Nobody thinks he will be OC that will be Helton. Weinke possibly will be QB coach.

What about as a consultant?

Al Wilson was a dominant player who inspired everyone, yes, including PM, in the 97 SEC championship game against Auburn.

I honestly don't know about that. I just remember a few yrs ago someone brought up Wilson and said he couldn't be a coach because he didn't have his degree. Hell he can't be that far off from being able to get it then he could if he ever wanted to get into coaching. Would be one helluva LB coach I believe. But on the flip side not all guys are great teachers nor are they great communicator's to kids.
