WR Recruiting under Dooley

Dooley may not be the worst recruiter, but he's not remotely on the level of Kiffin or Fulmer in his prime.

I'm not old enough to really remember Majors' recruiting ability, but it's ridiculous to act like it's impossible to get guys to come to Tennessee.

Do you not think the state of the program has anything to do with recruiting? Doubt he will ever be on either one of those guys levels, but if he can show he can coach and solidify his job, I think it's fair to say recruiting will improve.

Needless to say, having us 12th in enrolled rankings every year shows that he is at the worst a very good recruiter.

Unless his ability to evaluate talent is very, very good, his recruiting has to improve a lot.

Explain why. Please. If you just took the recruiting rankings and used that to determine his future, he'd be no worse than 5th in the SEC.

Brian Randolph? Rivera?

Neither highly rated nor great offer sheets. I think I will keep them both.

There are some guys like Jordan Williams and Trent Taylor that are doing pretty good for themselves in their short time here too.

You act as though Dooley has brought in scrubs. That is not the case.

Then just looking at recruiting rankings, there are 4 teams that are going to be better.

Finished ahead of Florida in 2009&2010 and ahead of UGA and LSU in 2011.

2nd in east the last 3 years in recruiting. I would say we are pretty much on par with the rest of the east.

OK. That's an improvement. If we finish fifth in the SEC every year, we will start finishing higher in recruiting ranking. It's a process.

The point is simple. To win, he has to either be better than the other guys at recruiting or be better at coaching. I don't think he's doing enough.

Until I see reason to believe he'll get it done, I'm going to be very skeptical about his ability to win. Getting close means nothing in the long run.

A. So you have expected him to win the past two years? Why?

B. If he wins 8+ games this year, will that not show that he has recruited well enough to improve the program?

C. Do you not think that success on the field, assuming he actually wins this year, will produce more successful classes?

I expected him to win more. Because he should have been able to.

There's a difference between being good enough to improve a bad roster and being good enough to win the SEC.

Yes, but it has to be a lot of success. I doubt many are going to be impressed by 8-4 with this schedule.

Playing time isn't going to work much anymore. He has to get people to believe he'll turn them into pros and they'll win SEC titles along the way.

9th, 13th, and 17th before gaining 4 star in Phillips yesterday. Fail to see where we are struggling in the recruiting department, especially considering our record the last 4 years.

Besides UK, what other games did you expect him to win and why? Besides aforementioned team, how many teams have we been more talented than and lost too?

I just don't see your point about being able to improve a roster and coach in the SEC. Neither one of us has any idea if he can coach in the SEC. He took over a team with the same talent as Vandy. We will have a much better idea of coaching after this year.

With this schedule? Say what..... 8-4 will be plenty impressive. And what makes you think that playing time is why recruits are coming? We will RS most of this most recent class.

Tennessee plays 9 teams that are either mediocre, bad, or awful.

How many teams with more talent than Tennessee has Dooley beaten?

I'd say Vandy week, Vandy was the "better" team. But pretty even.

But he's lost once as the favorite and won once as the underdog. Not great and not terrible. Obviously, that needs to change this year.

But why would you expect us to beat these teams that we've been underdogs against the past two years? What about our sophomore/freshman laden starting lineups made you think " OK. This is the week we beat Bama."

There are zero coaches in America that would've taken the team we had last year and beaten lsu Arkansas or Alabama.

We were young. We STILL don't exactly have a lot of seniors playing... But I'm excited for the season. Everybody should be.

Vandy most definitely did not have more talent.

Everyone but Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

haha... so we play three teams that are better than us, and 3 teams that are just as good as us.

I expect us to win 9 games, but to act like 8 wins is a disappointment is silly. We haven't had 8 wins since 2007. People will notice that.

It's not that they lost a few games, they've spent the majority of two years getting humiliated by teams that aren't awful.

Good coaches at big programs don't take four years to beat someone good. Dooley has to deliver soon, or there's no reason to think he ever will.
