Well, TB, I have worn my fingers out reminding folks, but winning recruiting ranking is about like winning a peeing for distance contest; might be fun to brag about, but that is about it. Some of those 4 and 5 stars are over rated. And Butch has said several times he doesn't pay attention to that. So, unless you got friends from other schools that call you at odd hours over the NSD star title, I see no reason to sweat it.

I think the top target is still Trey Smith, and others Butch will make room for is Cam Akers and DeAngelo Gibbs, maybe one or two more I can't rememver right now.

As to any who decommit, I feel it will mostly be guys with grade or discipline issues. Outside of blue shirts, grey shirts, or pink with purple poke-dot shirts, I am not looking for wholesale changes in the list. Butch keeps talking about doing things the right way, and I feel that includes keeping faith with recruits that keep faith with you. And count on the bulk of those changes to be on NSD. Just like last year, and the year before. You know, normal.

Your reasons is why I'm saying CBJ want allow more than 4-6 commits go. He wants to do the right thing. He doesn't want to look bad to the media by allowing more recruits go. He still could end up doing that though. Especially if he knows he's getting Trey Smith & Cam Akers at least on NSD.

Tony, we will not cut anybody AFTER NSD. It's up for debate as to how many between now and NSD, but they are Vols when they sign on NSD.

This did happen one year I believe in the past but I can't remember what year. It wasn't done under CBJ. I'm pretty sure dummy Dooley was the one that did that wasn't it? I think it was him or some coach back before him.

It was just tried like this one year though & whichever coach it was it doesn't work that way. It should be done before NSD. That's the only reason I brought it up about letting commits go before NSD. That's not the way it works. Thanks!

Will the Les Miles firing have any effect on the Vols recruiting? Any LSU targets on our radar? Possible transfers?

I personally think we will go after at least one of the 2017 signings that Miles had in the commit lists. I don't know who that player might be but I do feel like at least one. Maybe Stevens will de-commit & then we can get him after recruiting pretty hard to get him. Thanks!

We may not see many public commits for a while. The more we win the more 4 and 5 star recruits will be approaching the staff. CBJ will have lots of decisions to make. BTW, this will be a great position to be in, but we have to keep on winning.

That's probably around what Butch will let go. I've always said around 4-6 commits will be allowed to go elsewhere so we can really go after Trey Smith, Lamont Wade, Cam Akers, & others. Whatever to get us into the top signing class for 2017.

Tony, in general, though there are rare exceptions, the only players "let go" after signing day are the ones that get in trouble before they get here or the ones that don't make the grades. I think that there was a case a couple of years ago where LSU had an early enrollee and then when Fall rolled around, they cut him loose and that got them some pretty bad publicity. Saban, I think, has done it a couple of times, but I don't think Butch has ever let anyone go after signing day to get someone else in here.

Did I even mention that Butch had ever done this after NSD to start with? Thanks!

That very well could be what happens with the 2017 targets/commits. Butch is going to let ~4-6 verbal commits go anyhow. However, that will come probably after NSD.

Well, the idea he will is only the premise of your entire silly argument. Yet, the fact that he hasn't done it before makes your idea that he is going to "let ~4-6 verbal commits go, probably after signing day" (all of that in your words, verbatim from the above quoted post) even more ridiculous.

You're just nitpicking his words to try and create an out for yourself.

I guess that I should just give up. Thank you for your support, though :)

In support, the current most exciting player in college football Lamar Jackson was the 51st ranked player in the state of Florida and didn't make the Rivals top 250.

Recruiting rankings are a huge deal! Its been proven over and over. The top recruits are just better players 90% of the time.
