Would you trade Heup for any of our rival's coaches?

Rivals, nobody but Kirby (I think he is an underrated X & Os guy) Nobody at Ala, Fl, Ky, or Vandy.
This means I think Heupel should beat all of our rivals consistently based on average turnovers for both teams. Home field at Ala with DeBoer is a challenge.
Nationally not many. The SEC probably has the best coaches each school is willing to pay. Some can recruit but can’t game plan, others don’t have the personality to recruit
esp the better talent in the South.
The game is changing, particularly with the DL & OL. I see more transferring into programs, players that are already physically mature ready to start. Certain skill players can actually play out of high school. This and money will cover up certain deficiencies coaches may have and distort their actual abilities.
NO

Obviously this is just one of those offseason, can we please talk about football topics. I saw it asked on Redditt and thought it might stir some conversation here while waiting for the season to start. Just for clarity I really love our coach and am glad he is here. I actually think this topic made me appreciate him more after looking at what is out there.

For me:
Smart: yeah, probably. I hate to admit it but the dude is on top of the game right now.
DeBoer: Nah. I don't think he would be a step back and proved at Washington he can win but I like Heup better right now
Napier: Hell no.

Other coaches I would trade Heup for? That is tough. Day has the current NC but is he great or is Ohio State talent great? I am not so sure. Sark has been good at Texas but has a history. Guys like Kelly and Franklin are past their prime. I think the only two guys in addition to Smart would be Dabo and maybe Dan Lanning. I am not saying Heup is the 4th best coach in the country right now but he is already established here and I would really need a proven winner to go through the pain of another coaching change.

If you want to cover his buyout, and cover the cost of hiring the next guy? Call the university. I am sure someone will listen. For a few seconds.

I would trade CJH for Kirby Smart IF and only if that trade 100% included Smart’s recruiting results at UGA would be replicated at UT. And I think most know it is highly unlikely that would happen.

Smart is not a better head coach than CJH (in my opinion). He is most likely a much better recruiter (hard to know for sure because Smart has a built in advantage in terms of talent in the state of GA).

Also - assistants are so important . . . And of course it’s the HC’s job to get the best assistants. As some have noted before, as awesome as Spurrier was . . . He didn’t win it all until Stoops came along as his DC.

Getting UT to the CFP considering where the program was . . . Is, in my opinion, as big a feat or bigger than winning it all for others who have more built in advantages.

There's no way to argue against Smart being the best right now, but I honestly wouldn't trade Heupel for him.

Dethroning defending champions & rivals is the most fun part of being a fan, IMO. Beating Bama in 2022 was more fun than beating them from 1993 to 2006. Beating Florida in 2016 was more fun than beating them in 2022 & 2024. The next win over Georgia will be just as sweet.

Maybe I just love being the underdog, but I wouldn't trade Heupel for anyone. Next on my list would be Dan Lanning.
Kirby impresses me in games. He’s really involved. His calling TO in the semi final game before OSU ran that fake punt won them a NC.

Heupel has made great calls also. The TO he called in the 3rd qtr vs Bama to get Thornton in the game on 3rd & 6 won that game & won a CFP berth. Nico hit him for 45+ yards for first down inside the 5.

NO! I would not trade for anyone, including Smart. I still remember how great he wasn't before he got a stable full of 5*. I would love to see what CJH could do with the number of 5* players Kirby has.
The point being that other coaches at UGA didn't get those athletes but Smart does. Heupel seems to be focused on 3 Star players and appears turned off by the portal. He's acting like he's still at UCF and operating with Frosts recruits. Writing is on the wall for Heupel unless he starts cleaning out the dead wood on the staff and getting serious with recruiting otherwise he's dead man walking.

NOPE! Wouldn't trade him for anybody. I love the culture he appears to be developing, love his background. Had to work his ass off going the junior college route, then led his college team to a National Championship as a cerebral, hard-nosed QB. Hope he's at UT at least another 10 years.
Same here! Ultimately we will need to match up in recruiting more evenly w top dogs

What I see in CJH is he schemes around the talent, not just the QB...jmo. Some of these teams rely heavily on one or two players; they lose one.........their whole game falls apart......not always, but it looks like that to me.

Prob Kirby or Sark. Possibly Kiffin? I think all 3 could win a natty here. I like Heup though

Why would anyone want Kirby? He's only won as many national championships as Fulmer, Majors and Spurrier combined.

I don’t get all of this love for Smart. He has the best players, great. If you would have swapped Smart and Heupel 4 years ago, I think you would basically get the same results for UT and Georgia. In fact, I’m not convinced Smart would have done quite as well at UT. I don’t think he would have beaten Bama in 2022. It’s easy to look good with the best players. I don’t think smart brings anything to the table in terms of game day coaching that other top coaches don’t. Same with Sark. He seems to make some bone headed decisions every year and talent covers up mistakes. Not a fan of Kiffin at all but he’s a better offensive coach than Smart. I think Pedersen who retired a few years ago is the best coach I ever saw in terms of elevating players to play beyond their ability. Very few I’d trade Heupel for, but he’s far from perfect too.

Kirby is great at UGA where he is an alum and where so many of the great in-state players want to stay home. I’m not sure his success would necessarily translate to another school. He is undoubtedly a good defensive coach but his QB management seems questionable.
A LOT of his management has been questionable. He gets credit for his recruiting, but really the area speaks for itself. He absolutely wouldn’t have the same success at a mid tier school.

I don’t see that any of those 3 would get significantly better results than CJH at UT and Heup is a lot more likeable and a better person than those 3 so no trade.

I all know is you a rooting for the right team. That 93 stretch had some damn fine games but though, especially living in Bama at the time.
