Tyndall's inherited a real roster mess. His career will be impacted by the results he produces. Taking players with off court problems can also impact his career if they act out while at UT. Tyndall is the one with the most to lose so I don't see how we can't support his opinion on a recruit like this.

Domestic violence isn't always as clear cut as many want to make it out to be, especially when drinking is involved. I'm sure Tyndall would do his homework to really know a recruit with questionable history before offering.

Couple more years in of quality recruiting and a problem player doesn't even get a look IMO.

My question is whether the potential risk is worth the potential reward. One factor you'd have to consider is that he's only got one year of legibility left- is it worth taking a risk on him. I'm reluctant anyway and since he would only be here a short time, I'd vote no.

Regardless of what got him kicked off the team, I just don't see that Tyndall has much to gain by taking him. He's only got one season of eligibility left, so there's no long term gain in giving him a second chance. We've already tried to take a player who was kicked off another team this year (even though we didn't seem to know it initially), so it's more bad press. Tyndall will get a pass this year no matter what, so it would seem inappropriately desparate to me given the situation.

I see your point but tend to lean the other direction. If UT had to worry about keeping him out of trouble for more than a year, I wouldn't be in favor of bringing him in. But he plays a position of need and would only be here for a yr.

Kinda like Mizzu recently bringing the guard in for a yr or two that had been accused of I think also hitting his gf.

Think you're backwards, Michael Dixon played for Missouri and was dismissed, then played for Memphis last season (senior year).

The dude that supposedly raped some girl at Providence and then went to Oregon and did the same thing is another example though. He's now at a JUCO, in 1-2 years he will be back in D-1 most likely.

Can sleep much easier knowing you've only got 7-8 months of babysitting versus 4 years.

You're saying that it's OK if he would be a good point guard, but not OK if it's a position where we have some depth?

Nothing personal, but that's an awful way of making decisions. When this attitude prevails, you wind up with a bunch of talented individuals who think that they can do anything and get away with it, because guess what, they have.

If you're going to have standards, they have to apply equally.

If someone who was already a Vol did this, I guess I could see putting him on a very short leash and requiring a ton of therapy. You've already got him on the team, and you have a chance (and a responsibility) to set him right. But to go bring someone in with this past? Nuh-uh. There are other entities in this world who can take on this job. JMO :hi:

Needs definitely play a part in the decision, that may not be what you wanna hear but it's true. It's exactly why McKnight didn't have a scholarship offer until Tyndall missed on a few other bigs, the temperature quickly increased on McKnight.
