Honestly, it has been 15 years since Baylor and he has had success (admittedly not at HC) everywhere else. I think he wasn't ready before, but he is a VFL. I think he can coach, recruit, and win at a high level.

Might be in the minority, but I would be happy with him.

Posted in the other Steele thread, but thought I would throw it in here as well.

Am I mistaken or did Steele's defense shut down 2 number 1 ranked teams in a 3 week span? Is Steele my first option, no, however to think he would be a dumpster hire is a pure trash take. The man brought speed to Nebraska in the 90's, had a bad stint at Baylor, had time at Florida St and Alabama, got Clemson's defense turned around and set Venables, then went to LSU, had Auburn's defense looking pretty good this year. Given how poorly UT has played both sides of the ball since Fulmer left, I am firmly on board with Steele.

He's not my top choice, in reality I would love to see them take another run at Brohm, but Steele's recruiting prowess and ability to build a solid defense make him a solid candidate given the current climate at UT. I think this option also allows Tee Martin to come back into the fold as OC HCIW scenario. Tee is not in a position to be a HC, allow him to fully hold the reigns offensively for a couple of years, then reevaluate when the program has stabilized.

Remember folks UT is coming off the worst decade in program history and is at a minimum 2-3 years away from really competing with the likes of UGA/Bama/Auburn. We just went 0-fer in the SEC. Get your heads out of the clouds. Fulmer knows what he's doing. And don't give me the well he hired Clawson. 1 bad hire in 16 years get out of my face with that junk.

Gene Chizik Had the same record in the big 12 as a head coach...... that Steele had there.

He got fired from auburn for being awful....

He could only win with Gus Malzan on his staff at Auburn

Nope.

He’s a good recruiter so what?

Doesn’t matter if you can’t develop talent.

It’d be another CBJ type hire.

It wasn't on coaching ability.....

I think auburn trailed in every game... Cam was just better than everyone on the field.

And on D so was nick

I agree with an earlier poster. I will support, but I hope that we go in a different direction with the hire. Either way, just get a leader of character who knows how to recruit, game plan, make in-game adjustments, and develop talent.

If this happens they should fire everybody on the hill, top to bottom that has any input on any decision made dealing with our football program. No way we should settle for Steele when we had Brohm & Leach on the hook at different points in this pathetic excuse of a coaching search.

Welp ladies and gentlemen....looks like we are going to get a HC that 83% of volnation doesn't approve of.

17% of volnation is off their meds. Literally could not get any worse. Looking around at other program's hires... UT is just a pretender.

The man is a VFL and a good coach. We need to forget about the Baylor years and support him if he is hired.
