june jones took a 1-11 smu team in 2004 and had them at 8-5 by his 2nd year. And proceeded to go to four straight bowl games.

To say morris has done a better job than jones did up until his resignation im 2014 is ludicrous.

Everyone instantly points at his current record as a reason not to hire. If that's the case, Butch Jones should have done awesome at TN then right?

He's going to win 10 games next year and everyone is going to want him haha. What he has done with SMU has been remarkable. GREAT personality, another Mark Richt, Dabo Christian influencer. Will be able to come into a living room and sell a family on Tennessee.

Morris I think is a good coach. I'd like to see a few more years of success. SMU absolutely sucked when he took over. He's built that program from the ground up. His win/loss is very scary but if you look at where they were to where they are now he's done a great job. All of that said I think we can do much better. Leach is a slam dunk better coach than Morris.

June Jones rebuilt SMU and had them winning. They qualified for 4 straight bowls under him.

Morris didn’t have “nothing.” He had a team that hit the skids under a one year interim.

Morris is nowhere near Jones’ level of success at SMU, and Jones was there from 2008-2014.

Oh that June Jones “success”! He topped out at 8 wins when they were in Conference USA and had them at 5-7 in their first season in the American Athletic Conference before quitting after 2 games the following season after being outscored 88-6. THAT mess is what he left Morris. His greatest accomplishment with SMU was bringing the legendary cred he had established at Hawaii with 11 and 12 win seasons. He left them because he was making $900,000 and they scrambled together $1.7 million. He turned them down for $2 million at SMU. He did coach the Mustangs to bowls but he crapped out on roster building. Bad recruiting highlighted by not tapping into Texas (ie LOCAL) talent...focusing on out of state. He kept seeking bigger jobs and got turned down...and then he lost interest.

Yes, I verified the NUMBERS online but I already knew the story, living in this area. Morris is legit. I don’t know how it translates to UT but his Clemson roots alone make him a recruiting threat to other teams. Kids know him and want to play for him.

Right. And Bret Bielema was a huge success at Wisconsin so he'll win Big at Arkansas right?

No big school is looking a him including Ark.

How is a guy that can't sell NFL players or winning like Les can a better hire?

If the facts don’t work for you, just shove em aside and put other ones up. You honestly listed Schiano as a “proven winner” in another thread?

I’d say closer to Chip Kelly minus the career assistant at lower division schools and being handed a successful Bellotti program for your first college HC gig.

Yea, I just am not a fan of handing the keys to a job like Tennessee(a top15 job on any list) to somebody who hasn't earned it. And by "earn it", I mean that they should have without a doubt have shown that they can legitimately win in any situation due to their "philosophy or techniques". I'm still a guy that likes it to be proven to me before I hand over the keys. Venables is probably one of the very few Coordinators without Head Coaching experience that should get a look. The other is Tee because of obvious reasons(still not sold). Morris needs to step up from SMU to a......UCF......or an Arky.....or any better "mid tier" job to prove himself further before he gets handed a big time program with big time expectations. Kind of like what PJ Fleck is doing - going from proving himself at Western Michigan, and then stepping up to a Minnesota - now, if Fleck does good at Minny, then his next job will be a Top15 job. Hell, to be honest, I'd still take Fleck over Chad Morris right now this second, ha! We can do way better than both.

No college HC experience. Which he now went out and got.

TBF they went with another with no HC experience...Kliff Kingsbury. Course he was a favorite son returning home.

They were a .500 ball club over the last decade. Not a place nobody could win at.

June Jones at SMU:
2008 1-11
2009 8-5
2010 7-7
2011 8-5
2012 7-6
2013 5-7
2014 0-2 resigned

Unless you have Ed Orgeron, you are likely going to suck the year with an interim- so after Jones resigned, they went 1-9 under interim Tom Mason (that’s a google coach).

Chad Morris took over before 2015.

So while it’s easy to say that it was a dump, it had been a consistent bowl qualifier up until Jones resignation in 2014.

Morris has done a good job, but it’s not anymore remarkable than what Jones did, and I don’t see too many folks hoping to steal June from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who went 6-4 this year in the CFL.

Yes, I would support Morris if my goal was to be mediocre and win 5-8 ball games a year. Otherwise:

NOOOOOOOOO !

And yes, I’m well aware of the problems Jones had with finances while there, and know that they moved to the AAC- which is basically leftovers from the CUSA and lower half of the Big East.

Why do you always attribute things to me I never said? I have never said one thing positive about GS. I def never called him a proven winner. Maybe you got what I said about Miles confused?

I did look and Ark may be gewtti ng desperate and looking at him.

But my point was correct. How would he be a better hire than Miles.

Winning? Advantage Miles.
Championships? Advantage Miles.
Producing NFL draft picks and stars? Miles.
Recruiting? Miles.

Morris would be a bad hire. Kids Coming out of school now aren't going to give him crdit for anything Clemson is doing. All they will know is a losing coach from SMU is trying to get them to come to UT.

Kids would flock to Miles at UT like they did at LSU.
