Hell no. If we lose to Bama, also hell no. If we lose to USC, also hell no. If we lose to Mizzou, maybe so. If we lose to Troy, hell yes. If we lose to Vandy, hell yes. Finally, if we lose to Kentucky again, I will die.

So if he lose to Bama,MSU,USCe he shouldn't be fired ? Right here is the problem with this fan base. Everything is ok as long as we beat the lesser teams and lose to the big boys. He shouldn't be fired for not beating the good teams but he should be if he can't beat the lesser teams. The good teams looks at Tenn as an automatic win like we do when we're playing the scrubs of the SEC.
But he shouldn't be fired mid season

...real AD's judge the seasons entire body of work. A lot of gunslinging talk about firing so understand this....Tennessee is unlikely to get a name coach and a dream team staff, there was a time when that would have happened, but those days are over......!

False. Money talks, people said the same about Bama, etc.

The better question is would you still fire him even if he beats an illegitmately ranked team and then finishes the season as expected (beatdowns by Bama and USCe, a loss to Mizzou, and wins against Troy, Vandy and UK)?

Welcome, new user!

What was your name last time?

Simms Fan or something along those lines. I got banned for trolling because I supported Matt Simms. This was before I even knew what the term "troll" meant. I just liked Simms, didn't want to thrust the freshmen Bray out there so late in the season... But it is what it is. I hate that I was banned for over a year from discussing one of my favorite subjects in the world; UT Football (and athletics in general)

Glad to back now, and will definitely refrain from supporting Simms or "trolling"

Wait till the end of the season to see the whole body of work. If they lost to MSU but won every game but one after that and had somehow beat Bama, most would see that as great progress even with 8-4 record.

Yes. Supporting Simms is unhealthy. Stay away from that.

Not immediately, perhaps, but rather at seasons end. If you were the AD, and we lose to MSU along with the conditions of Dooleys less-than-spectacular on-the-field results thus far, would you fire Dooley whether it be immediately or at seasons end?

I'm more interested in what our fanbasewould personally would do rather than what we think the current administration should do. I would personally not fire him based on this game alone, however, if the results were lackluster for the rest of the season (no upsets, losing a game we were supposed to win, then my decision might change.

At this point, I'd favor a 2-3 year extension over firing Dooley for the consistency of our program alone, not to mention recruiting. Of course, as mentioned above, that could all change depending on the rest of the season

for those voting yes, I wish they would also explain what type coach they feel they could persuade to come to Tennessee?? You fire a guy that is 2.5 years into his tenure and has lost, in his 3rd year, to 3 top 20 teams and he gets fired??

Might be lucky to get a GA to take the job. :)

If he is 3-5 after the next 3 games then yes I would let him go, name an interim, and have a new HC named before the December quiet period starts in recruiting. IF you know its coming then go ahead and do it so the next HC has a chance to salvage the recruiting class and evaluate the current staff to see who stays.

I think they only way we'll have big name coach anytime soon is if some unknown makes his name known during his tenure as the Tennessee Football Coach

I learned the hard way

You know what? I'm feeling generous today. Since your let's call it re-new on here. I'll give you the list of things you can support that are healthy to talk about.

1) O-line (but only for pass blocking)
2) R. Neal (but only in some games and that may change play to play)
3)

ok. there are really only two things you can discuss on here, and that is only part of the time, without causing a major uproar by someone and thus putting yourself back into the unhealthy situation of possibly being banned.

Tennessee has NEVER hired a big name coach that was not an Alum. they will not begin now or in future either..

Coach Dooley won't get another year with a loss to Mississippi State unless he beats either Alabama or South Carolina. If the Vols had won either the Florida or Georgia game I would say he would probably stay for one more, even with a loss to State.

The losses to top 25 teams have just piled up on him and this is the year that he needed to get the monkey off his back. Mississippi State is a must win, along with a good showing against Alabama and South Carolina and a strong finish with the last three. There's a chance, I just don't see a good outcome for the Coach however.

yeah so we're doomed to be stuck with mediocrity for quite sometime. literally, stuck with the Dooley. firing a failure would be detrimental to our program. That tells a lot about the state of where we are :ermm:

What you are choosing to ignore is the fact you would be firing a coach that was never qualified to hold the job in the first place.
We all might be surprised at some of the coaches that might show interest. Well, some more than others.

I would wait until the end of the year no matter what, but I think losing MSU means we will only win 7 during the regular season. That is not good enough. However, it might be better to give him the last year of his contract b/c of $.
