Would we be better off with Currie still AD?

Was Currie really that bad of an AD? I mean he did listen to the fans and back off the Schiano hiring once he saw the backlash. Plus he supposedly was close to hiring Leach when he was fired. All things considered, do you think we’d be better off with Currie still here, rather than the past 3 years with Fulmer at the helm?

I think Mike Leach is one of those guys who needs three years to get his program in place. If you hire him expecting instant success, probably going to be a little or lot disappointed.

There is absolutely no way he is on the hot seat after one season at Mississippi State. Are you going by that coaches hot seat website? Because outside of that, I’ve seen no credible reports that his seat is hot at all. They went 3-7 this year just like us, with the difference being Pruitt is on year 3. Everywhere Leach has been, it has always taken several years for his teams to turn the corner and really start competing within their conference. He was 3-9 his first year at Washington State, which was in really bad shape when he took over, and they didn’t really start having success until year 4 when they went 9-4. His best record there was 11-2 in year 7, which is pretty impressive at a school like WSU...Pullman is not an easy place to recruit to. Plus any first year coach this season was at a much bigger disadvantage than usual due to all the practice time missed as a result of COVID.

Currie was more qualified to run an athletic department but he was a spineless, Haslam puppet.

An AD is just like a casino boss. He needs to be able to smile at and glad-hand the high rollers and insure they have a good time while the house is taking their money. Equally as important, he has to be able to keep everybody in line, command respect, and occasionally bust some knee caps.

Currie came on board knowing Butch would have to be replaced. He had months to plan. His plan was 1) Mullen- that feel through. 2) Schiano- terrible choice 3) Nothing planned after that. Hence it became a mess. Hart decided not to start the search until after he canned Dooley, even though he had a year to prepare for that inevitability. With two clear examples front of him- It's frustrating to now see Fulmer dragging along seemingly without a plan as well.

I agree. And just to clarify, my original post wasn’t asking if Currie was a great AD, or even a good one for that matter. I was just asking if he was possibly better than Fulmer.
