We would of beaten Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky, Vandy for sure. Maybe UGA, and maybe USCjr and Florida. So yes.

I'm not going to make any definite conclusions from this game. Seemed like we played for the first 1.5 quarters and then went to establish the run mode the rest of the way. UM had 8-9 guys in the box every play.

UGA looked terrible, albeit against a much better team. AU needed a minor miracle to beat a WAC team. Vandy got outgained by Elon. USCe's defense was shredded by ECU. Ole Miss looked lost on offense yet again. And UK was just pathetic.

When the coaches work out the kinks in the running game we will be fine.

You are retarded

+1... and you put it in a nice simple way so he could understand it :p

Well thats not very nice. :(

You guys thought we had a good night rushing?

Seriously?

I'm just saying we can't play like we did tonight and expect to win against quality teams. Out of the SEC teams we play only those two(KY &Vandy) couldn't handle what we had tonight. Do you think those closed holes and crappy blocking is going to do well against Bama, LSU, Arkansas, etc?

I'm sure DD will get them straight but tonight was sloppy at best. We are better than we played. jmo

Just joking man...

It wasn't a good night rushing, but the coaches will get that straightened out. Poole needs to be a little more patient with letting the play develop.

If an SEC team puts 8 or 9 in the box, they will be getting torched for 400+ yrds by Bray and company.

The 2nd half of this game looked like an experiment.

Enjoy the win and gear up for next week... should be a good one! :peace2:

I do think we tried to run the ball when the numbers were not in our favor. I mean jesus, there was 9 guys in the box with the safties and corners playing bump. In a real game situation, we woul throw the deep ball on them. UT was just trying to see if they could run the ball in situations. Notice we just played a public practice. We threw 2 deep balls, first 2 pass plays, and then we didn't go deep the rest of the game. We just ran the ball on a stacked box. So, you tell me, why would I not think we couldn't beat a majority of sec teams.

Not sure about you, but for me this wasn't a quality opponent and I wouldn't assume we could torch the rest of the SEC just because we can throw a ball around on Montana's School for the Blind and Mentally Disabled.

All I'm saying is I'm taking a cautiously optimistic approach. You go nuts expecting us to steam roll everyone.

"We were hoping we could run it a little bit better but Montana did a good job. They have all seniors and juniors on defense, and you could tell. They did a lot of stuff - moving, shifting, blitzing - and they are physical. (Tauren) Poole had 100 yards and averaged four yards a carry but we were hoping to run it a little bit better than we did. " -D. Dooley

UT's performance tonight was probably the 6th best in the SEC. We'd be throwing a fit if we had given up almost 40 points to Utah State and East Carolina.

And Montana may actually be a better team than both of those.

Poor play? No, everyone else was perfect. Alabama only had five turnovers. Florida only had three. South Carolina only allowed 37 points. Perfect games around the conference except in Knoxville. In the end, most SEC teams won big, including Tennessee in case some of you missed it. Despite the wide margins of victory, almost everyone appeared to have some serious flaws. Would tonight's performance beat SEC teams? It absolutely would, especially if other SEC teams play us as they did in their openers. Somehow, I doubt that will be the case, and I doubt that we will play as we did tonight, too.

Tonight's performance would have beaten almost half the conference:

Kentucky
Auburn
Vandy
Ole Miss &
Georgia

Having said that, tonight's performance would also have also gotten us blown out by Alabama, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and South Carolina.

Or beat by half the conference. Which is where we're at. The coaches will lose sleep this week, you can take that to the bank.

Look, it was a rhetorical question, and I hope CDD is asking the team the same thing. Factoring out first game jitters, a pretty young squad overall and the wet ball & such, it was still a concerning performance, imo. If the team comes out of that game patting themselves on the back for a solid point differential, they're dead. Asking yourself the tough questions and looking at the shortcomings 1st..is the best preparation, I think.

Their line was big, the box was stacked and we ran anyways. Do I wish we got more push, yes but anyone thinking we'd be pushing around teams this year were a little off base anyway. I'm pretty confident we'll win about like most of us already thought, which is 7 or so. This was a good 1st game. Showed some weakness without giving away our reall game plan. If any SEC loads the box like that it will be JH or DR that are getting the ball not TP.

Granted, the running game was a disappointment but I'll take UT's first game performance over that of UK,UGA,Auburn, or Ole Miss

Impossible to answer. I'm fairly sure we could have thrown for 600 yds if we wanted to. It should be fairly alarming that we could get zero push in short yardage and goalline situations. Was the box stacked? Yes. Will we face many situations against sec teams where the box is stacked and we must be able to get a yard? Yes and we better be able to do it better than we did last night or we might not get to even 7 wins.

First: WE COULD HAVE WON BY WAY MORE THAN WE DID.
Second: WE DEFINATELY WOULDN'T HAVE WON AT THE LIKES OF LSU, ALABAMA, OR FLORIDA. POSSIBLY GEORGIA THOUGH. (WE ALL KNOW WE MUST BE ABLE TO RUN TO WIN IN THE SEC)
Third: Dooley slowed it down to help work on long drives and game management.
Fourth: Be played a butt load of Freshman and Sophmores last night.
Fifth: Janzen was missed but Dooley feels comfortble enough to let Randolph replace Janzen and move Waggner back up and help with the corner spot.

and Last: Cincy put up 72 last night. A few concerns but I say we still win.

Now, Florida is different story.
