Would like to see slower tempo vs Vandy

With our defensive woes, why not shorten the game.
On offense, instead of snapping the ball at 15-20, do so at 5-10 seconds.
We keep ball longer and rest our defense and give Vandy fewer offensive series.

Why we scored 50 on them last year and our offense isn't the problem? Few possessions just gives us a smaller margin for error.

Score quick and Score often is my plan.

You're kidding right? If ever there was a game to play tempo it's this game. Vandy does not have a good offense and as good as their defense has been we will be able to score more points than they can in a shootout type game. Not to mention pace is one way to keep their defense on its heels.

We are a better team than Vandy regardless of our defensive woes. A shorter game helps the less talented team.

Also, it's no secret that we are somehow a far better team the further we get into games. I think we want to have as many snaps as possible to give or momentum time to take over as it usually does later in the game

The offence is clicking at the moment. So I'll just say if it's not broken don't fix it. Now the defence on the other hand. We need some work there.

UT has no DT's. The Vols really do not have any consistent position on D except DE.

If they win the last two games, it will be because they put lots of points on the board.

You could look at it a different way in that if our tempo wears them down, it will be easier for us to score. We will likely need to score 35+ to win this game.

I tend to agree with you BOT. Although I will be surprised if Vandy scores 30+ points unless some of them come in garbage time.

Our defense is possibly the worst I've seen in my 50 plus years as a Vol fan (and I do remember Sunseri) but I can't see Vandy scoring more than 30 on us. We should hang at lest 40 on them.

I say that's their strategy. Take the air out of the ball and pound it right at us, use play action.. I think you keep doing what you're doing. Thing is their defense is good enough to slow us down. The defense that everyone is bashing will have to make a stop or two at crucial moments or it could very well be a loss.

Based on what their offense has done the last 3 games, and what our defense has done the last 3 games, Vandy is good for 24 to 35 points against UT.

Could it be less? Yes, but UT will have to play much better defense than they have recently. Could it be more? Yes, if UT can't slow down Webb and Schurmer.

My "comfort zone" for this game starts with UT at 50 points. Problem is, I don't think we get there at Vandy, and against their defense.

I haven't made my picks yet, but I'm thinking something in the neighborhood of UT 35-27. I think Vandy is a tough out.

Go Vols.
