Would Jon Gruden be interested in job?

If he was talking about "head coaches" then Weis wasn't one in the NFL. He may have just meant all coaches.

As for him and Notre Dame, he has made 2 BCS Bowls in 2 years. I know he is having a down year but it's because of the terrible depth they have.

They were incredibly overrated those two years.... Winning 10 games with the schedule they have shouldn't be that hard with a decent coach.

2003: 5-7
2004: 6-6

Weis comes in...

2005: 9-3
2006: 10-3

I'm not saying ND isn't overrated year in and year out, but they did beat Penn State (41-17) last year who went on and beat us. Also beat UCLA.

And in 2005, if not for the so-called illegal "Bush" push, ND beats a great USC team.

Give it time, and ND will be good once again.

Notre Dame's 2004, and 2005 recruiting classes weren't ranked in the Top 25, so right now their "top" talent aka Weis' players are still young.

Well, Weiss is currently at Notre Dame. Of course, that's not exactly working out great for him right now. Bill Walsh returned to college to coach Standford after winning Super Bowls with the 49ers. Those are two quick ones off the top of my head.

I'm pretty sure he was implying a Super Bowl winning HC.
Gruden was also pretty successful at Oakland, something that hasn't been easy with Al Davis since Madden coached.

I think Gruden is a stand-up guy, and he will not tolerate this "half-a**ed" stuff I've seen from out team in the last couple of years. Out of all of the names, save maybe Bo Pellini, I would say Gruden is probably one of the best candidates. He is a big name in football, and a proven winner.

Yeah, give Weis another couple to develop that team and ND can completely dominate. They're a young team and were jumped on by 3 pretty good teams. The only thing I'm frankly surprised at is their total lack of offensive production. I'm not surprised they're 0-3 at this point though. If they drop MSU, I'll be surprised.

I'm not very educated on where Gruden has been, but by some of the stats yall are putting up, I like what I see. We need big changes in K-ville, and I kind of like this idea.

after doing a little research, Seems to be a decent pick. It's neat that he got started as a grad. assistant at UT. here's is record so far has a head coach.

I'd like know what happed in 2004 and 2006.

He personally wrecked a great team. Striped The Bucs of every great D player they have had. Got rid of a good solid qb. Made bad picks in the draft that caught up with him. Out coached etc etc.

I find it hard to understand how you can go from 5-11 one season then 11-5 the next then back to 4-11 the next. I'm not a Bucs fan so help me out. So for those of you that are Bucs or Raiders fans, Yes or No for him coming to UT?

I think Gruden would bring some needed fire to the team.

I love UT more than the Bucs. I wish him gone at tampa. If it means coming here, he can stay. 2005 was Cad Williams Rookie year. Was ran to death and had been injured and worn out for the last 2 seasons. NOT good coaching.

2003 Moved alstot futher into the rotation didnt see much playing time. He and Pitman shared a great deal and it worked. Keyshawn Johnson was used less then let go.

2004 Jon lynch was gone and Warren Sapp

I think aging players and salary cap wrecked a good team, not Gruden. The cap had something to do with stripping players along with trying to get younger. His solid QB was one of those 'old' players also. As far as the draft, I can't blame them for taking a guy like Cadillac Williams as we have all seen this guy first hand as Vols fans. Seeing as there is no salary cap in college (especially at Bama) and age is not an issue than I think he would do just fine. He should recruit well based on his work ethic and name recognition alone. I can't see how anyone would compare NFL win-loss numbers to college numbers. Do you think Gruden would do well with New England's talent? Do you think Fulmer could win a Superbowl with the same Bucs team? I would take Gruden in a second.

Yeah, look at how dominant the Warren Sapps and Dexter Jacksons of the world have been since they left Tampa. I'm not even going to get into the nasty little fact that Gruden isn't the personnel director, because that would interfere with the idiotic fiction that Dungy slurpers try to pass off as fact. Bottom line: Gruden won a title with a team Dungy failed to do so with. End of story.

He might win something based on another coaches team but them change it all around then start losing. I could have won the SB that year with that team.

No NFL head coach had done anything moving down. Head coaches that move up are the same. Its a different system. Gruden would do as the rest, fail.

Pete Carroll? I hope UT gets a coach that "fails" like he does.

I'm pretty sure Steve, and Rick are turning the programs around at their schools after being in the NFL, grated they both had proven college coaching experience before

I often think about what kind of coach I would want if the University and Fulmer parted ways. One thing I would want from a coach is the ability to play young talent early. I know that Jon Gruden is known to use extensive verbiage in his playbook and I wonder how this would work at the collegiate level. If proffesional players can't wrap their head around it, than how can an 18 year old?

I have been a Raiders fan all my life (go ahead and laugh). I follow them closely each and every NFL season. With me getting the Raider mag and being on the Raider forums and seeing and knowing as much about the Silver and Black as I do I will say this: HIRE JON GRUDEN if he will come.

Gruden was the best thing that happened to the Raiders in a long time. He is, in my opinion, one of the top 5 coaches in the NFL. I don't know why his success hasn't translated in Tampa Bay. I do know that he turned around a pretty pathetic Raiders team and made them legitimate threats in a tough AFC West at the time. Now, they are right back to crap. I do think Kiffon can possibly turn them around in the next two seasons but this isn't a Raiders discussion.

So, from a longtime and diehard Raider fan that follows them very closely.............I'd take Gruden in a heartbeat. The man is dedicated, he gets fired up, and he's got a great mind for football. I'd be stoked if he came to Knoxville and brought that attitude here.

We should hire eternal. He could win a Super Bowl with team Tony Dungy couldn't. Impressive.
