If you think our offense is bad now, I shudder when I think what it would have been like under Les.Would it have made a difference if we would have hired Les Miles, Gene Chizik or other head coaches who were available at the time CJP was selected? Would they have brought something to the table that CJP does not?
Someone.....sure....those two.....I don’t know.
Sometimes it doesn’t take a great coach very long to turn around the fortunes of a down program. However, you would have to have found, a great coach.......and you would have had to pay them a lot......a whole lot more than Tennessee was prepared to pay.
With low budget coaches it would take a minute (usually) no doubt.......the process.....brick by brick....and all that Jazz. However you can usually spot what you have if your looking and not orange blinded.
If things are progressing, if the team is competing, if the team has motivation and discipline, if the recruiting is good, ect.....hey trust that process........if it ain’t.......you probably know what you got in that coach.
Gene Chizik is not a good HC. Les Miles would definitely be an upgrade to CJP, but very doubtful the answer we need. CJP is recruiting well so...I think all we can do is be hopeful next year is covid free and our younger guys actually get some development.Would it have made a difference if we would have hired Les Miles, Gene Chizik or other head coaches who were available at the time CJP was selected? And I think everyone knew we had a good coach (competing, recruiting, etc) until the second half of the Georgia game. Now suddenly Pruitt’s a bust.
Amazing how quickly a fan base can turn on you.
Should have fired Butch a month earlier and wrapped up Mullen with an MOU but I digress
I think Mullen was playing the waiting game regardless.
Yes, unfortunately Fulmer isn't going to go after certain guys for whatever silly reasoningWould it have made a difference if we would have hired Les Miles, Gene Chizik or other head coaches who were available at the time CJP was selected? I think Mullen ended up where he wanted to be if given the choice, so no. I think he was waiting it out.Mullen was leaving Starkville pretty much no matter what. Those around the MSU program have indicated that Mullen put absolutely no time in preparing for the 2017 Egg Bowl. Mullen was upset that his former boss Stricklin did not have him as first (or second choice) at UF. The question (that we do not know the answer to) is if we had given him the acceptable contractual parameters early the week of the Egg Bowl, would have he agreed?
He was on the hot seat halfway through last season and then we got the trash part of the schedule and we squeaked out some close ones against KY and Mizzou en route to a 1-point comeback victory over the mighty Hoosiers in the Gator Bowl and some bucket of dumbasses decided he wasn't the same guy who lost to Ga State and BYU.And I think everyone knew we had a good coach (competing, recruiting, etc) until the second half of the Georgia game. Now suddenly Pruitt’s a bust.

Uh.....not everyone.
I certainly didn’t think Tennessee had a good one.
Competing.....consistently....no.....see all those blow out losses, and those losses to lesser teams.
Discipline.....certainly not.
Recruiting....check.
Consistent improvement.....no
Also throw in there stubbornness.
One out of all those things doesn’t make me see “great coach.”
I was “out” and could see what I saw after the Vandy game year 1. I’ve still been seeing more of the same. Tennessee gained some consistency the latter part of last season....which was great. However Tennessee was certainly playing lesser competition and have since reverted back to the inconsistency.
Yeah, and some of us who can walk and chew gum at the same time didn't get excited about that big 8-game win streak. We just looked at the competition. And I think everyone knew we had a good coach (competing, recruiting, etc) until the second half of the Georgia game. Now suddenly Pruitt’s a bust.

We had one blowout loss in 2019, and that was to a UGA team that would have been playoff bound had they not lost a fluke game to SC (who we blew out).
Edit: sorry two blowout losses. I forgot about Florida in the swamp.
