... to have a thread that discusses Arkansas' strength and weaknesses, and how UT will match up?

I live in the land where newspapers talk about nothing but Stanford and Cal, and the LSU-Bama game was on page 3, so I depend on VolNation for my news about UT and SEC sports. And I know pretty much nuthin' about Arkansas. Recently the forums are less in the news section and way more on the Op/Ed page, and I miss the news content.

If anyone can offer some insight, educated guesses, and downright gossip about the upcoming game, without derailing onto the subjects of depth, experience, coaching, lack of coaching, Fulmer, Kiffin, Majors, Dooley's future or lack thereof, negavols, sunshine pumpers, Mike Hamilton, POTSB, and whatnot, I'd be awfully grateful, as there are plenty of other threads addressing those issues.

Not being sarcastic here; I'd genuinely appreciate some info about the game. Also anything mocking Arky and its fans is always good, of course.

TIA. :hi:

PS: bonus points for not using the terms "retard", "sucktard", and "dbag." :)

Tyler Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Greg Childs, Jarius Wright, and Tyler Wilson. Arkansas is the Packers offense of the SEC. We MUST somehow limit the big plays arky thrives on. Id like to see Eric Gorden get more PT espicially at saftey.. We must control the ball on offense.. how were gonna do that is beyond me though..

Arkansas has an explosive offense with 3 or 4 really big tall and fast WR's. Their running back hurt his back against SC and may be limited this week (Dennis Johnson).

The key to having a chance against Arkansas is to hit Tyler Wilson and hit him some more (kinda like playing Brady or Manning in the NFL). Vandy played Arkansas tough and they were getting really good pressure on Wilson.

If we can shut down their run, then we can hope to pin our ears back and blitz away and create some errant throws and possibly grab some INT's.

I think we could contain their O, I just don't think we will be able to enough that our offense can keep up with.

I see 31-17 being the closest this game could be if Arkansas shows up to play...we have to hope to catch them sleep walking to the LSU game after their big win over the Cocks last week.

Our defense has barely hit a QB all year. I'm not sure what the problem is, but they can not get to the QB. They bring a little pressure but that's about it, it seems.

Youth and inexperience or so we're lectured on a daily basis. BTW - surprised how little the posters above know about Arkansas' personel. Childs is a non-factor - has only 120 something yards rec this year, and Wright and Adams, their two biggest threats are both under 6 feet tall

They have moved QBs out of the pocket and disrupted plays. Sacks aren't always everything, but they need to get some in order to get in Wilson's head

I was saying they have 3 or 4 very dangerous Wr's who are some combination of big tall and fast.

They have Gragg(TE) and Hamilton 6-3 and Wright and Adams are super fast and what around 6 foot?

Childs is still a threat...shows you how deep and good they are at WR.

They have a Petrino offense. Their WR's are coverable but skilled. They'll surprise you with their running game.

Their pass O has been significantly less effective moving the ball vs the SEC than OOC. 388 vs 264 ypg. Total O does as well: 385 vs 533.

They rank 9th in the SEC in total D and 8th in scoring D. I would argue that UT's D has improved over the course of the year. They survived a half vs LSU and Bama before getting tired and beat up. Other than that, the 33 pts early in the season to UF was their only bad performance overall. The 14 they gave up to USCe should have been enough to win had UT been better on O.

In short, Arkansas doesn't play good D which yields a glimmer of hope for UT. Their O however is a big test for these young guys. If there is any good news for UT's D vs their O... it is they are somewhat more traditional in their approach and do NOT have a large athleticism advantage.

Is Childs' lack of production a consequence of his knee injury? Before that happened, he was being mentioned, legitimately, in the same breath as Jeffrey and AJ Green.

I worry about what his apparent decline suggests about coming back from a major knee injury and, specifically, what it might say about Justin Hunter's recovery.

Our only chance is if they overlook us and we catch a bunch of breaks. I fear that it will be quite ugly...42-10 or some such.

Vandy almost caught them snoozing but I don't foresee that happening at home.

I think their quarterback and Bray are two best passers in the SEC. Their receivers are tall and fast. To me, that is our worst matchup. Probably a 300 yard passing type day.

To win, we would probably need 2-3 interceptions, a blocked punt and a great day by Worley.

On offense, our passing attack is very good. Tyler Wilson has taken some shots but still leads the SEC in passing yardage. Dennis johnson is a good RB (and KR) who is very hard to bring down but seems to always be in BP's doghouse because for some reason Petrino loves crappy broderick green and ronnie wingo. We use the 3 RBs a lot...DJ has had 100 yard games against LSU and Florida before being out for the season last year. I think green should be a FB and wingo should be a WR because he has good hands

We sometimes bring in our backup QB Brandon Mitchell for read option plays inside the redzone...he's 6'4 230 with good speed. Our FB Kiero Small does a great job lead blocking and has broken 9 facemasks this year

Our WRs are probably the best in the SEC...Joe Adams is a percy harvin type player and a good PR...jarius wright leads the SEC in receiving yards and is a great route runner and fast...childs isnt the same since his injury but hamilton is pretty good. Gragg has filled DJ williams' shoes nicely as well. We like to spread the ball around.

Our offensive line is young and has gotten wilson sacked hard throughout the season, but played very well against SC. We play 50 times better at home.

Our DL was supposed to be a strength heading into the season, but our best DE jake bequette was out for a few games...he came back against auburn and had 3 sacks against SC. Our other DE Tenarius wright should be back for the Tennessee game...he's been out since bama

Most of our fans want our DC fired because there is no reason our defense should have been as bad as it has been with all these seniors...it wasnt even this bad last year. But i like our LB group. MLB jerry franklin is one of the better LBs in the SEC, Alonzo highsmith is a juco transfer and has played well...and jerico nelson is a hybrid LB/S who is an undersized playmaker

Our DBs arent that great. SS Tramain Thomas was preseason all-SEC but has been inconsistent. Sophomore FS eric bennett has shown promise...3 INTs on the season. Our two best CBs are a former walk on and a true freshman. Greg Gatson is the former walk on and while he keeps up with the WR nicely, he struggles agaisnt bigger WRs and isnt physical. Tevin Mitchel is the freshman (Chose us over nebraska) and will be a very good player for us. Former 5* Darius winston is good against the run but not very good in pass coverage. The rest are toast.

Special teams wise our kicker was named SEC special teams player of the week 2 weeks ago and is pretty reliable. Kicks it out of the endzone as well. Dennis Johnson is the active career SEC kickoff return leader and joe adams has 2 PR for TDs this year

I hope you guys have fun in Fayetteville...it seems like when we play you guys here we always miss your starting QB lol

It looks like it. I think it might be more mental than anything...he has had several drops where a defender was about to hit him and has struggled getting seperation. Same thing happened to marcus monk after his knee injury

Their strength is passing the ball.

Our weakness is defending the pass.

It could get ugly. Early.

It'll be close till halftime, then I think we run out of steam and they bury us. (Judging by previous games)

If the Hog team that played USC-E shows up, this will be ugly. If the Hog team that showed up vs Ole Miss and Vandy shows up, it'll be a closer game.

I still stand behind the post I made last year that Dooley's still having to clean up Kiffin's mess, but he's restoring an air of respectability within the TN program. I really feel that in the next couple years that TN will become the new FL of the SEC East.

We have to control TOP by having some level of success running the ball.

In the 2nd half the match up looks like this....Arkansas will make halftime adjustments if needed and look like they have a pulse and have played football before. Tennessee will come out and look confused, lethargic and basically like crap.

I think our D vs the arky O might go something like the UGA game where 90% of the plays we look pretty good, but every now and then a wr runs free on a deep route .. the difference is arky will make us pay for all of those, not 2 outta 6.
