Would Dooley have been a candidate for the head coaching position at Vanderbilt if he were still at LA Tech? Given his demeanor, I think he would have been a good fit for them.

Yes. That would be a good fit. But what does it matter?

I don't know why everything on this message board has to "matter". Its a discussion board. If you don't want to be a part of a thread then don't bother posting in it. Yes, I believe that if Dooley was still at La Tech than he would be a prime candidate for the Vanderbilt position.

Doesn't matter at all. Just curious to see what others thought.

Good point. It is the off-season. Honestly, I don't think he would have taken the job...he would rather wait and see if he could get better offers next year if his team improved.

I was like most everyone else when Hammy hired Dooley...HE HIRED WHO?!? But since he's been around, I have liked what he's done and what he's said/not said. The final verdict will be proven on the field though, that's for sure. But at this point, I'm pretty darn happy we got him. Although, everytime I see Gurden on Sportscenter, I get sick to my stomach thinking what could have been, but that's nether here nor there.

Yes, Dooley would have been a good fit at Vandy, but I wouldn't wish that on any coach.

Totally agree. Watching him help that high-school team, I was just thinking over and over" What coulda been." I think he would have come here had Hamilton reached down in the pockets and stroke his ego a little.

I thought the question was going to be if Dooley would have been a candidate for Tennessee, had there been more time to replace blank-head.

I'm not sure when coach O will get another head coaching chance. I KNOW it won't be at Vandy. He is a great recruiter because he promises the world to these kids. He is also intellectually, emotionally, and hormonally on level with the 17 year old high school boys.

Yes, he was turning ole miss around but that was through recruiting not coaching. He has never coached kids up above their potential. He recruits himself in a position to win, not coaches into a position to win.

Vandy can't handle that much unharnessed testosterone.

I loved him when he was our NCAA infraction causing, loud, immature ogre. Now that he is gone, I can't stand the obnoxious old man. Leave your shirt on...there are more cameras in LA than in K'Ville.

Most of us would've liked Gruden. He said NO, repeatedly. Helping a high school team does not interfere with his broadcasting career, something he could not do as BCS conference member head football coach. There was never a chance. Ever. not even a little tiny one.

Since Dooely was hired, it's become apparent that he was going to be on the short list for UGA and LSU and he likely would've been offered whichever of those two jobs that Muschamp does not take. I doubt Dooley would've given much consideration to the Vandy job.

We'll agree to disagree.

I don't know why all the to-do about Gruden. Just because he's a knowledgeable broadcaster it doesn't mean he would make a good coach.

IMO if he had followed Saban to Alabama the entire country would probably know who he was and would be clamoring about him being the next up and coming assistant coach. If he had stayed with Nick we probably wouldn't have gotten him.

I agree, CDD is highly thought of in the states that are familiar with him. AL, LA, GA, only time will tell but I think we are lucky to have him.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that. I think Dooley will do just fine, but Jon Gruden just knows so much about the game that it blows my mind.
