Would Coach Heupel start a true freshman QB ?

Dorsey also hadn't been out of HS a few months and had been in a college strength program..2 completely different things You can be 185 and have muscle and college strength, GMac clearly doesn't yet. And Bray was 220.
I dont know of ANY planet where Bray would actually be 220. No way. I dont care what the "program" says. Saw him up close multiple times when he played. Again... 220? No. Way

I dont disagree. My opinion is based on the premise that he actually is the one giving us the best chance to win.

If he truly is, then absolutely. I would guess it's probably really hard to tell if he's not going up against the 1's and 2's. Honestly, I'd love to see him run with them and just see, but unfortunately JA and Merk need all those reps they can get. With Practice limits, unfortunately he doesn't have that option.

Some guys carry weight better than others. I've got a buddy that is 6'3 and his skinny ass doesn't look 200 lbs. But he jumps on a scale and he's 217. Guys carry weight differently, so it's absolutely possible. I'm 6'2 and thicker than him and he outweighs me by 7+ lbs.

Tennessee has been plagued by insignificant QB play for far too long in big games under Heuple, talented receivers, running backs and stellar defenses have marked the Heupel years so far, with the exception of Hendon Hooker's emergence in 2022 before injury in an inexplicable loss in Columbia. The Nico experiment failed, the Milton experiment was a failure with the exception of the Orange Bowl win over Clemson, Heupel needs to lean on QBs that have played at a high level before coming to Tennessee, Georgia and Texas and other SEC schools have printed money using kids coming from high 6A high school talent at QB? Nico and Milton could never adjust to the speed of the game, a fatal circumstance in the SEC game as it is played.

That's easier said than done. It truly depends on their frame. Some guys can be 6'5 and have a thicker frame. Guys like GMac are just skinny as hell and will never be muscle head like some can at his height.
Yeah, I get it's harder for some. I was super thin as a young buck, so I get it. I'm just wondering if that was even a focus of his over the off season.

There is a good reason this post has zero likes.

This premise is: we have a coaching problem if G-Mac gives us the best chance to win.

Heupel has him consistently running against 2s and 3s, so Heupel doesn't know what he's doing if G-Mac is our best QB currently.

I don't think you actually believe your premise, do you?

George Maclntyre is trending up . A lot of unknowns here beig a true freshman .
( positives ) probably the best athlete of the three , as good or better arm as the other two , definitely the highest ceiling of the three . He comes from a football family , so the pedigree is there .
( negatives ) he is bone thin and needs to gain about 25 pounds and he has no experience at the college level .
Three weeks from today , can't get here fast enough.
From all i have read he isn't even throwing to the ones. So if that is true he is not even being considered as a starter.

So was Peyton, his last 23 games he threw 23 interceptions as a Vol. Aguilar 25 games, 24 interceptions. When you're having to throw it 35- 40 times a game, yeah you're gonna turn it over. Look at Danny Wuerffel..Fla threw it all over the place..23 games his last 2 years, 23 Int's
There are lots of very good qb who threw int. If you only throw when a receiver is wide open you won't score near as many poiints. A 2 to 1 ratio of td and int. is good imo

If Heupel thought that he would not have recruited over both Merk and Mac. He would start them if Ag was a total failure after getting him on campus but that does not seem to be the case. Both Merk and Mac will be challenged by Heupel's QB coming in next year as a freshman.
imo Hype will not ag will not start the first year, I don't even think he will be given a chance, example Mac is not even getting to throw to the ones this year.

Damn, are those bruises on his tiny right arm? He is tiny. Get that kid some protein!
Just wondering is there any evidence a smaller player gets hurt any more than a laarger player? I ask this because i know plenty of larger players that get hurt. The only reason Hooker got a chance was because Milton got hurt.

All I had to do was watch the highlights of the Spring game to realize GMac is the most talented on the field. I was hoping Aguilar would be the hands down front-runner, because GMac was also obviously frail and not taking hits in that game.

For the latter reason, I don’t think Heupel starts him if it’s close.

We shall see ultimately.

Good news is Mac will be good when it’s his turn. Not sure what that means for the 5* coming in if (Faizon) if Mac is bigger and better next year. Will he wait around until his Senior year to play one and be gone? Would he be willing to redshirt? Or does he come in as a Freshman and force a GMac xfer?

All similar questions to yours, and the answer is we just don’t know.

I hate to agree, but I do. So far. I have only watched a little of G Mac, but I liked the way he moved—especially as a true Freshman. Faizon is apparently the real deal as well. The best of those two might change all that.

I'm not denying that, I was just responding to the poster whining that he threw 13 Int's last year. When you're throwing it 40 times a game and constantly behind, you're gonna throw Int's. Like the old saying goes" When you pass the ball, 3 things can happen, and 2 of them are bad." Good thing is we won't be throwing it 35-40 times most games. If we are, then throwing Int's is the least of our problems.

I would be surprised if Aguilar wasn't the starter. I feel like we may end up losing Mecklinger to transfer portal. It is really between the two of them as MacIntyre is still too young (i.e. needs to put on more weight and gain experience). That being said, he could have a chance to emerge during the season as QB1 if things don't work out or we are faced with injuries.

I'm kind of on both sides of that fence. Say if GMac starts this year and plays well, Merk will transfer and not sure Faizon still comes here. Then we have 1 scholarship QB and we're stuck in panic mode trying to recruit another HS QB or finding a transfer QB that doesn't mind sitting. Could also depend on how they view Faizon, like if they envision him a True Fr starter. On the other hand, Faizon could love TN so much and thinks he could beat GMac out. With kids these days, it's hard to guess which will happen. If JA starts this year, then Merk,GMac and Faizon battle it out next Spring. Or Merk says F it and leaves after the season. I wouldn't wanna be the one making this decision.
The portal will still be there.
