As far as unnecessary issues, heart breaking losses, and constant instability this has been by far the worst year in UT athletics that I can remember... given I'm only 27 so their may have been worse before 1984. idk

I think we will rebound though, well in football anyway. I'm not so sure basketball will survive being only in its infancy with gaining a fan base in Ktown.

We should have a good shot at 8 games next year assuming they end in regulation. Seriously though, an 8-9 win season would make this last year feel a lot better.

Seasons like this seperate the real fans from the fair weather ones. May not seem like it now but better days are ahead soon.

It wasn't fun being a senior this year. My four years at UT has kinda been a disappointment in sports. But I'm always a vol fan, through the good times and the bad.

My junior year in '77-'78 we went 4-7 in football and 11-16 in basketball as Cliff Wettig filled in for a mentally shaken Ray Mears. We did take the NCAA title in swimming, though. So I guess you are right that this year was worse.

I'm Vols crazy no matter how bad we do... and I've not been a fan that long. I only got to see a couple games under Fulmer b/c i didn't start following until the end of his last season. So maybe my opinion is different than most just b/c this is all i've known with the Vols...... But i didn't think that this season was all that bad. I obviously know it wasn't great but to me I could definitely have been worse than it was.

If anything it excited me... It gave me hope seeing that we have a solid coach that came in and is getting everything straight and so much young talent including QB Tyler Bray, who i think is going to be a HUGE star. We played LSU, who at the time was top 10 i believe, down to the wire and almost won had it not been for the screw up.

I dont know, maybe it is just b/c i didn't have an intrest in the Vols when they were in their 90's Prime and early 00's... but I didn't think this past year was a total bust. I think that Dooley did great with the chaos that he was thrown into. I'm ready to get back in those stands and go crazy! GO VOLS

I think the worst was the kiffen experment:bad: Dooley has us headed in the right direction. This will be a better year, and 2012 should have us back on top. Just my opinion, time will tell.

You must not have been around very long. I remember when we lost to UTC in football, almost everyone in basketball and baseball, and almost no tennis team. Things were so bad that my room mate started on the baseball team. However, the hot dogs at the Smokey Mountain Market and the pizza at The Quaterback were really good.

Each day I meander up this way, it's always something different. The kind of things that makes you go WOW, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Kinda like the urge and concern you get from just having to slow down and take a gander at a three car pile up, but not so much that you feel compelled to drive anyone to the hospital.

Anyone know the heimlich maneuver?

I totally agree. I remember much worse sports years than this. Heck, I lived thru the Bill Battle yrs and I think I can recall when it was the exception when the hoops team got into the big tournament; recent yrs have us spoiled there. But football is the main sport and we go into next season much better positioned than we were this time a yr ago. :good!:

This too shall pass.

During my four years the best season was 7-5 in football, and we've done some great things since then.

I'm going to go with 1986. Won about a dozen basketball games and 7 in football.

The lowest I've ever felt was the first half of that Monday night football game in Baton Rouge, 2005. I saw something. I saw the future... and there were storm clouds ahead. December 2007 in ATL was the icing on the cake. But I feel a lot better about this program (football and basketball) today than I have at anytime between 2005-2007. Those were dark days.

Not anymore... we have hope right now. A new beginning.

The crazy thing about this is the fact that that was the high point for our football program in the past 5 years. Again, the high point of the past 5 years was ALMOST beating the eventual national champion in the SECCG. God it's been a rough few years for football.
