Not quite true. A bald eagle, (Auburn's is a Golden Eagle) was the mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment in the Civil War and is the screaming eagle mascot depicted on the insignia of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division. He would fly over the battlefield during the regiment's engagements.
I hate when the UGlyA band plays "Gory, Gory". For Pete sake all that song is, is the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" sped up. You would think a state that's capital was burned to the ground by the Union would want nothing to do anything related to it.
This made me think of a pro football one.
Every time the jags get a 1st down, the crowd yells "move them chains, move them chains, move them chains! Whoomp!"
I went to see them play the Colts last year and couldnt help but laugh every single time.
Here's why Rammer Jammer sucks.
It's gibberish words used to rhyme with the state bird (the Yellowhammer). Absolutely ridiculous. Why the heck would you put the state bird in a song?
Sounds like a mental patient or homeless person came up with it.
This is an honest question, why does the band have to know 50 different versions of Rocky Top and why do they play it after every first down. They don't play anything else it seems.
Actually, the Yellowhammer was sewn on the uniforms of Alabama's civil war regiments, and Rammer Jammer Yellowhammer was said regiments' battlecry. I am sorry I know that. I feel dirty.

There is one version of Rocky Top, the band simply starts at different places in the music based on the situation.
Each band member also has a folder full of stand music; it's just not used that often. There's some great music in there but a lot of it just isn't played.
