Worst loss in Tennessee history?

The wyoming game was bad to but the team seemed liked they didn't want to be there. The music city bowl it seemed like they wanted to win.

North Texas State.

The only other loss close to that is the one to Chattanooga that touched off fist fights from Cumberland Avenue to Gay Street around 1960.

My Grandfather and Great-Grandfather had the misfortune of working that game and the aftermath as part of KPD.

I was sitting in the stands for most, if not all, of the games mentioned in this thread...and nothing compares to the sick feeling I had when watching North Texas State beat us.

2011 - Kenyucky
2008 - Wyoming
1996 - Memphis

1a - 1c. You pick the order

Amen Yankee Vol. I said KY last year. The other two were bad as well. I picked KY for these reasons: 1. The other two losses did not end "the streak". 2. Memphis and Wyoming are not conference foes that we have to face every year. But yes, all three were gut-wrenching.

UT Chattanooga, 1958

My Pappaw (God Bless his soul) would say after every bad loss "At least you weren't around for 1958 UT Chattanooga. Nothing, in UT history, will compare to that."

People mentioning 2008 Wyoming:

Yeah, that was a sucky loss, but it wasn't that big of a deal. That team was bad, Fulmer was fired six days earlier, and the players didn't care, and there was nothing to play for.

2001 LSU just beat us. I can handle that. 2001 UGA was twenty times worse because that game was won. ****ing squib kick.

The one that hurt the worst for me was 2007 sec championship vs LSU. I lived in Hattiesburg MS at the time. Was supposed to leave work early to go to the game but got off at 6pm on friday. Drove to ATL got there around 230am or so. Wife and I met up with friends who flew in one way and rode back with us all whom are huge LSU fanatics. The hotel was overbooked so my friends had their room but we did not. The hotel found us a room at the sheraton in downtown atlanta, normally this would be okay but this sheraton was old, dirty, loud and smelled like piss. Get to our room at 6am and go to bed wake up at 11am. Game time, we are beating LSU until Ainge throws pick six in mid 4th quarter. We get the ball back drive deep into LSU territory and Ainge throws his second pick. Of course we lose. On the way back home with 4 lsu fans that will not shut up my wife hits the pole backing into a stall at the gas station denting my new tahoe.

1. 2001 SECCG against LSU...so much to play for and a week after we finally beat Fla in the swamp and we let a backup QB and RB beat us.
2. 1996 against Memphis...there is no way in hell that team should've lost to those pathetic sh*tbags.
3. 2001 against UGA...that was just a punch in the gut.
4. 2007 SECCG against LSU...we couldn't beat LSU and ruin their season like they did ours in 2001. Beaten by yet another backup QB.
5. The Inept Trifecta - KY 2011, Candy 2005, Wyoming 2008. Three different, bad UT teams beaten by other bad teams that we normally would've dominated.

I see. Poster meant to say "temporarily took over the east, then went back to his suckbutt ways"".

The way he wrote it seemed to say that Richt has ruled the east since 2001.

2011 Arkansas thrashing. I believe it was the biggest margin of victory against Vols ever. Capped of a pathetic season.

Calm down. We all know who has ruled the east

We could "dream" up worst losses all day long....HANDS DOWN...the Memphis loss was UNQUESTIONABLE the worst loss for our program...at least that I can remember and I've been a fan since 1963..Div 2 level program beating the 3rd ranked team is horrible...of course we all know that with todays replay it would not have happened....

NEVER is a loss to another SEC team even considered for the worst loss of all time...If I remember correctly the Duke loss was to a Spurrier coached team...even lossing to KY last year...as nasty as it was...does not qualify for the worst ever....and the LSU game in 2001 for SECC...its the way we lost that game...not the worst loss ever though...

I agree...This is the worse loss. You need to add if UT Wins they have a very good chance of playing for the NC.

Crazy, considering the BCS didn't even exist then :whistling:

You are correct, it was called the Bowl Alliance then. Pac 10 and Big Ten champ still went to the Rose. top rated teams from other conferences playes in either Sugar, orange, or Fiesta. Still just as big a deal even though it was an called a different name.
