Worst Loss Ever

also, the last time ky beat tn, I was there, 84 in neyland. only my second game. my first was the tie with army earlier that year. :realmad:

That game gets my vote as the worst loss ever, although Kentucky had a pretty good team (they were on probation for cheating--imagine that.)

I remember listening to it on the radio. I was 11. It still hurts a little:cray:

As a side note, the only hint of a silver lining I can find in the loss to Vandy is that, behind Notre Dame's 500 game win streak against Navy, Tennessee now owns the nation's second longest win streak against UK (the streak against the Dores was 2 games longer before the loss.)

Yeah I was at the game in 84 when we lost to KY...I still remember it well. I also think the bama loss streak hurts me pretty badly too (9 years in a row I think). Couple of those games were o so close (much like last years loss). And many of those game we led til the final minutes and they took it away with a field goal. We need to pound Vandy High a little extra this year and put them back in their place. :)

I thought our loss to LSU in the SECCG game was the worst for me. We were coming off a huge win over UF and had the chance to play in the Rose Bowl.

The 1975 14-17 loss to Vandy in Knoxville....especially after 21-21 score in 1974. Frigging Bill Battle.

i remember that. they were interviewing fans on the strip and at the airport who were waiting on the vols to fly back in. i remember one dude on tv saying "we're going to the rose bowl baby!!!" and I sort of cringed...

then we got our a$$ kicked in the SECCG. those roses smelled like poo-ooo ooo...

The 01 LSU game was very painful. The 99 Arkansas game hurt too. The Vanderbilt game last year hurt but by then I was so Shell Shocked from the season it didnt matter that much. It still hurt that they kept us from a bowl.

It hurt the Music City bowl too lol.

Losing to Vandy in 2005 ranks high on that list.

You know when UT fan(s) are pulling out the paper bags, thats a bad loss.

The 1999 loss to Arkansas was the worst if you think about it. Tennessee was ranked #2 in the BCS and would have returned to the NC game for a rematch against FSU. I always felt Nebraska and Tennessee were the best teams that year, and Tennessee would have beaten FSU for back to back titles. Damn shame.

90 bama
01 LSU
99 AR
96 tiger high
95 Gators
any vandy
north texas st

agree with all of the above, but my nominee for worst ever is the "archie who" game of 69 against ole miss. vols were undefeated and #3 in the polls, and proceeded to get shellacked 38-0.

The early ninties game vs Bama where Johnny punted on 3rd down, pinned deep in our own territory was pretty bad.

For me its either 01 uga ( prevent defense? ugh!) or 01 lsu (the backups beat us? ugh!). Lsu cost us much much more, but I hated uga much much more. Of course it makes it worse when you have friends visiting (uga) or youre in your home city on the fifth row (lsu).

I was at the Memphis game in '96 and would say that it is one of the all time worst loses in history for UT. The 96 Vols were REALLY good; it would be hard to compare the 96 Vols to the 05 Vols that lost to Vandy.

forgot about that one. definitely up there with the crappy games list. i have no doubt in my mind if we would have won that game, we would have gone on to the national title. i actually remember feeling sicker after that game than after the '01 sec championship. hard to beleive, but true.

A lot come to my mind but the worst Vol loss I can remember was the Memphis game in 96. It is hard to beleive it was ten years ago.

God that was a heartbreaker of a game. Those Memphis fans were yelling, throwing things, and spitting at us after the game was over. They were the most rude fans I have ever experienced. They showed no class at all. I'm not saying all Memphis fans are like that but the ones I experienced on that night were.

To make things unbearable WREG Channel 3 out of Memphis replayed the games countless times and that is all they wanted to talk about.

My Bama buddy still rips on me about that game, but I turn around and give him flak about BAMA's loss to LA Tech 2000.:)

don't forget northern illinois!
