Worley out for season

Let's go back four years ago when a coach named Dooley decided to burn a young mans red shirt with his team hopelessly behind, against the eventual national champion at there place and the ball on his teams one yard line. That is almost bordering on criminal. Just another reason to hate that little ba#tard weasel. Just saying..........

Warrior! Now can be a big asset to Dobbs. Sad he is out but he may really help coach. Go Vols!!

I appreciate Justin's toughness and his loyalty to UT. He is a VFL, no doubt.

Given the significant offensive improvement under Dobbs, could UT really afford to tie up one of it's 85 scholarships in 2015 for Justin? That is assuming he were granted a medical/hardship redshirt.

That is no knock on Justin, just considering needs going forward.

In addition to all that has been said about Justin's being a true warrior and has probably taken more knocks at QB than any QB I can remember in my 47 years of watching the Vols, I also applaud him for his leadership. He was the right man at the right time.

As one of the few seniors on the team, he bought in to Coach Jones process and became the leader of the team. He is well spoken and the team looks up to him. We needed that from the Spring game through fall camp and into the start of the season. We all watched him get knocked down, get up and go at it again. Then, in press conferences, he was all about correcting mistakes and moving on. Not one time did he ever waiver in his support of his teammates who he always said had his back.

In the "game" of life, in my opinion, Justin Worley is a First Team All-American. I will always wish him the best. VFL Justin Worley! Best wishes to him on his surgery and Godspeed.

Can't say I am surprised , think we all knew this was coming. I hope his surgery goes well.

I will get slammed for this and I could care less but, if Matt Simms can gang around the fringes of the NFL for 3-4 years now, I think Worley could get a shot if healthy.

He was just stuck in the wrong offense for his skill set and it cost him.

Worley could have easily transferred like Coleman but he stuck it out.

He was and is all Vol and anyone complaining about him starting in this thread needs to just give it a damned rest.

I will remember him also for working on throwing left handed last week...anybody that disrespects Worley might as well piss on Neyland's statue.

El oh el.

If we can "tie up a scholarship" for 3rd string DB's, I think we can find one for a 5th year senior QB with a TON of in-game SEC experience and our first win over a Top 10 team in more years than I care to remember.

Besides how would you tell him that regardless of his health, his scholarship has been pulled and isn't available to him anymore? Worley would be the best back-up QB in the SEC if he were able to stay and didn't win back the starting job.

Worley's greatest sacrifice was to try and run an offense (the spread option) for which he was ill-suited to run due to his apparent and understandable reluctance to run. If he had elected to transfer to a team that ran a pro style offense, he would have been a national star and would have perhaps avoided the beating he took while this offensive line has grown up.

Given the beating he was taking this year I am not at all surprised he had his year cut short by injury. I predicted it was going to happen.
I don't know that he would have been a star, but I have been thinking that Arkansas would have been better if Worley had followed Chaney there. He fits his offense much better than Bajakian's.

Highly doubt he gets the redshirt, but it would be nice to have him as an insurance policy next year given Dobbs' running puts him at risk for injury on any given play.

They can afford it if they drop Wegzyn or Peterman.

If this is the turnaround we've been hoping for (and I think it is), Worley and AJ have been major keys to the turnaround. Thanks to the Worley Bird!

Good Luck to this young man that gave his all for Tennessee Volunteer football. He was a warrior in the truest since and I sincerely wish him the best on his health and his future. Thanks and may God Bless

Hate it he went out like that. I'm not sure if I'm Worley I necessarily want the red shirt. The chances of starting or getting significant playing time don't seem too good. If he needs another year for his degree then sure but they can put him on medical hardship and accomplish the same thing. I mean if he wants to put in the work for another year without a big shot at playing then good for him and I'm sure he is welcome but that seems like a huge commitment with so little payoff that I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want to do it.

Good points. No one was planning for a 5th scholarship year for Justin. That scholarship would have to come at the expense of someone else currently on scholarship or a new recruit. I hope we are not taking commitments from anyone who is not expected to produce in the next 4 years.

I might differ on Worley being the best back up in the SEC, at least in our system. He simply is not nearly mobile enough. Aside from another attempt to redshirt Dobbs in 2015, I don't think it would be possible for Worley to win the starting job.

I certainly don't dislike Justin and would much more prefer him in the back up role, next year, over Peterman.

I have been a big time Worley supporter. Hate that his college career ends like this. He is a true warrior that gave everything, including his body, for Tennessee.
