Worley gets in the game and burns his redshirt

Good decision by Dooley. Simms gave us zero chance of beating SC and Arky - and perhaps even Vandy. I can't imagine Worley being any worse.

HE IS GOING TO START NEXT WEEK!! Is it that hard to understand. I am going to guess that Dooley had decided that at some point if Simms did not cut it he would use Worley. Which is more important....bowl or redshirt?

Apparently to some a redshirt is more important than winning games.

I'm fine with that. Make a decision during game week that he gives you the best option going forward. But to make that determination in a game well out of hand to simply hand the damn ball off is dumb.

All of you people can call me an idiot, but you cannot convince me it made sense to make this decision now. Give him reps with the #1's during the week and see where he is at. You DO NOT burn his redshirt in this way, I don't care what anyone says.

it was 4-6 weeks before the surgery; the surgery was part of what was figured into the original timetable

we should still be looking at the same timetable that - at max - he's not back for the Vandy game but fully healthy for Ky

if there were complications, we would have already heard about them

so unless dooley's just afraid to play him again (after the top end of his recovery time), there should be no reason he's done for the year

We will see. There is a reason Worley is playing. Could just be for the simple fact that he doesn't see us winning anymore games with Simms as the QB. If it takes Worley to get a win against SC, then you can't blame Dooley. Sucks to burn the redshirt, but you have think about the present instead of worrying about the future.

I see no issue in burning the redshirt if the coaches believe he gives us the best shot at winning. Simms really does give us much of a chance, and I'm for trying something different.

wait are you saying that so to allow for Worley to RS you're going to put in a true fresh at backup?

Peterman is going to be a stud. If Worley ends up not getting to redshirt in the next two seasons, who cares? He'll still get 1 year (2 if Bray leaves early) and Peterman will be behind him.
b/c that makes little sense if so

Remember how horrible Ainge was his second year. You never know. Personally, I think Bray is the man! But he needs to work a bit harder on his reads. We will not be successful in he SEC just passing the ball. Had we been able to run against Florida and Georgia like we were able to against LSU and Bama, we'd have won both those games.

And there were also people that thought it would have been better to play Crompton in 2007 rather than Ainge

I'm not saying Worley won't have a great career here, but to bank upside and potential alone as certainties...you just can't realistically do that in this game

Sorry.. But if we bench Matt after going against #1 and #2 and start a freshman.. Simms will be totally washed if Worley goes in and makes freshman mistakes... Sorry .... We dont have much choice now... We need to give Simms some chance on the easier teams..

We need more QBs on the Team plain and simple...

Simms is allready washed... There are things that he does, such as staring down receivers and holding the ball WAY to long, that he will always do no matter who we are playing.. He just doesnt seem to be able to shake these things.. They lead to 3 and outs, sack, turnovers, basically things that get you beat... I'm not sure where Worley is in his development but he cant be any worse than Simms and probably gives a better shot at winning..

This is the same thing that happened last year.. I believe they would have liked to redshirt Bray but Simms play didn't allow them to...

I'ts more about leveraging your future. You let him spend a year learning the system, the reads, etc. Then you get him some game experience 2nd year to put into practice everything he has been studying and letting him see what the defense and play in the book look like in a game environment when the D will be trying to mask it.

Agree with all that's been said here...but if this plan was a possibility the whole time, why wait so long? Surely Dooley could tell that Simms was not going to give them a chance to win pretty early on. I understand the situation playing against the #2 team in the nation, but I can't help but thinking that we could have kept it a lot closer if we had any kind of passing game.

Redshirt means you didn't play for a whole year and essentially get that year back. 1 play and the redshirt is gone. If you play in less than 4 games and get injured, you can still medically redshirt

Not only are you a troll, you're a dumb troll. You can redshirt any year. Just can't redshirt THIS year.

Who is UT going to beat with Worley under center that they wouldn't have beaten with Simms?

When A is not working you try B. You may not know if B is better than A when you do it. But you know A is not gonna work.

No way Worley is worse that Simms.

USCjr. and Vandy. Doesn't take a genius, SGM.

I agree. Both these teams have a pretty good defense and can pressure the QB. We have all seen how Simms handles pressure. Not very well. I don't see us getting wins against either of these teams with him under center.

I think they put in Worley to give to team some spark to rally behind going forward. You could tell from the body language that pretty much no one on the team believed Simms could get it done.

Every is saying how dumb it was to burn a redshirt to hand the ball off 5 times. He was put in with 7 min to go but Lane fumbled the ball. At that point the shirt was done. Bama then ran the clock down and gave us the ball at the 1. So should we have put Simms back in? No. That would have been stupid. The first handoff that was fumbled is typical for someone coming into the game for the first time ever in the SEC and in that environment. So get off the coaches back about "how" he burned that redshirt. The coaches didn't fumble the ball or plan for that to happen.
