Where did you play football at Vol Mania?

didn't play fball, i played basketball thru college.

maybe it is 40 times, idk, it's been a long wk here at work. i haven't lifted for strength alone for a few yrs. Maxing out once you get to 350 to me is just scary. i have to be careful anyways when benching because it feels like my shoulder will pop out. the most i benched was 390, and that was a month after my sr. season in college. i'm 6'7 and have long arms so that's a respectable weight for a guy my size. at the time i weighed about 220.

DC VOL...HAHA I don't think I am one of the buffest civil engineers in the US, but I am the biggest here at work. I am 6'6'' so i know what Mania is saying about arm length, however I am between 265-270lbs so my strength really isn't that amazing. I've also already had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum when I was 20. I'm 22 now. Therefore I only max about once a year just to see where i'm at..I generally stay between 8-12 reps, thats why my one rep max is not as good as my 225 reps. Also indicates why I would have ranked okay at the combine, but I would bet 90% of the guys my size "max" more than I do.

Yeah I work out religiously but Im way more careful. Im back to benching around 380 but Im going up slowly. the last time I ripped my peck, I was jumping up in weight too quickly. But like you I have long arms so it hurts me on bench. Do you still lift weights a lot?

ya i lift everyday, usually take sundays off. i switch my routine up every 8-12 weeks. for example right now i'm lifting heavy. range between 6-8 reps, 4 sets. also when i first start a body part i do the first exercise w/ 2 warmup sets of 10-12. When i go heavy it's a lot of barbell stuff.

when i try to lean up, i do a lot of dumbbell stuff, and my rep range is 15-20

I lifted in high school but didn't really know how to lift weights until I got in college. I still see so many people that have no clue what they are doing in the weightroom.

so here's the question of the day gorilla.

did you just get huge and ripped, or did you just get fat like phil?

dang, i was about 6'5 170lbs in h.s.

well i lost weight to become the 195-205 range in hs in order for quickness and endurance, so the first 25 lbs or so wasn't hard to gain. i became much more muscular, i wouldnt say i am ripped though, but on the whole i gained about 70 lbs and only went up one pant size. So somewhere in between, but more towards the huge and ripped. I would say i'm built similar to J. Witten.(I'm not suggesting I am capable of what he is on the field, nor am I trying to sound arrogant)

And thats the answer to the question of the day.

The most I've ever benched was 400 and when I tried 405 I ripped my left chest muscle. I agree when you get into heavy weight you can do a lot of damage.
I tore my right pec once playing a sport that most of you hate, I've also torn an acl, damaged an mcl, and dislocated my knee cap. the knee cap injury was the most pain at the time (it situated itself on the outside of my knee until they pushed it back into place), but the pec tear was the most pain over a sustained period of time. you don't realize how much you use your chest...sitting up, laying down, breathing, turning your head, getting dressed...hell I was driving and sneezed and literally about ran off the road.

Mania, my diet is up and down depending on the time of the year...currently i'm trying a low carb-after lunch, protein surplus approach. Don't really worry about cals.
