Word on UT Attorneys

But why in the hell would he do that? Butch is in prime negotiation position. The University wants to get rid of him, and he's owed a lot of money already in his contract. UT will pay him that just to get rid of him.

Because there is a time value to money. The contract says we owe him 12 million dollars. If it also says if fired he will be paid 100,000 a month until the contract is paid off then it will take Butch 10 years to get that money. Maybe it also says Butch can’t coach at a P5 school for 4 years. Administration could say “how bout this, we’ll pay you 4,000,000 today and both move on, you can also coach wherever you want”

TOS saying buyout drops significantly if vols miss bowl berth. This may explain what the attorneys are negotiating. It may also explain why Currie has delayed his decision. He may be holding out for a discount.

Remember that Hyams said the “Kentucky game is crucial.” This initially led me to believe that the announcement would be made following a loss to Kentucky. But now I’m thinking a win against Kentucky is what will trigger the announcement, because it will all but ensure a bowl game and eliminate the benefit of delaying the decision.

I'm not worried about Recruiting. The majority of the TN kids are gonna be Vols regardless. Long as we have a guy hired sometime shortly after the regular season ends recruiting isn't gonna take a huge hit. Depending on who we hire it could get better. Way too soon to worry about this recruiting class.

Actually, I would think the class would be gutted, including the TN kids. That are plenty on the list other programs want, and they will come hard for them.

However, I could see plenty more besides Dixon. Harris and Harris considering flipping if Tennessee does nothing. You can't use a single class as an excuse to retain a coach if you are sure it is time for a change.

If true, I’m curious what the figure saved would be

Same here. But I can’t see a scenario in which that discount (whatever the amount) would offset the losses encurred by delaying the announcement. If true, the administration effectively handcuffed themselves by adding that stipulation.

If they snag someone who’s currently coaching though, waiting should also reduce the buyout UT would have to pay to that school too. Correct?

Click on College FB, Then "Edwards Teams To Fade" Story there.

Reports out of Knoxville indicate that UT’s powerful attorneys have been working on the details of a buyout over the last two weeks. And with the torture UT’s fan base has been put through with five years of Butch-isms, there’s little doubt that the pink slip will be issued before lunch on Monday (if not sooner).

For the lazy, this is what was in the article. You're welcome.

Why would lawyers be involved in this period? The buyout is in Butch's contract. It is what it is. Why are lawyers needed to "work" on the buyout?

Plenty of reasons. One, Butch wants out. Any buyout is offset by potential future earnings. So, Butch could negotiate a fixed option for less.

Currie is keeping cards close to the vest and is NOT going to fire Butch mid season.

I don't think it saves anything. According to his contract he gets a bonus incentive for making a bowl (the amount varies depending upon the bowl). If he doesn't make a bowl he doesn't get the bonus so it doesn't change the buyout.

The uppers at UT are doing nothing and if Currie gets his wishes then Butch will be here next year.

The days of Dickey and JJ are long gone and it is what it is.

They made Butch a contract and he should be payed in full.

I will no longer bash Butch and the silence from the top, speaks for itself.

Either way, The SC game would have been the game and they did nothing.

First, the number beside my name is very small. I have read and watched Volnation for a number of years now. With that said, you can take what I say with a grain of salt or simply look past it. Your choice.

The end is near. Some people inside the department and outside pushing for a big name and doing their part to convince him. Stay tuned. My source will remain anonymous.

That told us literally nothing.
