I knew this was going to happen, I absolutely knew it. After the masterpiece that was WW, I was happy to see the DCEU actually did something right, then I remember seeing the announcement for “Wonder Woman: 1984” and I thought to myself “Oh no... please no, please don’t miraculously find a way to screw this up.”
After seeing the trailers and whatnot I thought maybe Patty Jenkins was going to find a way to make this a pretty solid film, sounds like that was not the case. I haven’t watched it yet, and I can’t imagine it being as bad as Aquaman, but the reviews are certainly disappointing.
It’s fine... worth a watch. Just don’t build it up in your mind that it’s going to be anything special.
I never watched Aquaman. Didn’t bother with JL either. I will say it’s better than Green Lantern (since it was mentioned earlier). Definitely better than BvS and still more fun than MoS.
It has an 80s campyness that is a different tone than the first. I think people find that jarring. Has several cliche tropes of superhero sequels. It’s about 30-40 min too long. Neither WW film had a particularly strong villain and a fairly anticlimactic ending.
I definitely don't agree with it being better than BvS, and I'm hardly a BvS fan. And being more fun than MoS...not really sure about that either since I didn't have much fun with this movie. Both of those movies are at best meh but for very different reasons and I'd say they're both marginally better than this one. I'm not sure it's even better than Aquaman but I'll say it's on the same crap level. I'll give it it's better than Green Lantern but since that's pre-DCEU I'm not really counting that.
There's really not much I can say I enjoyed in this movie. Pine was ok for some comic relief I guess but otherwise kind of useless. The acting was over the top but not really in a good, fun way; more in a "we're trying to be serious but it's coming across as forced and cheesy". Even Gadot had me laughing at parts where I was not supposed to be laughing. The dramatic swelling music in the background didn't help.
I'm dumbfounded at how badly this turned out. And even shocking that it's the same director. I could understand a bit more if someone else took over but nope. This movie is Razzie material.
Well I fell asleep in BvS, it was so bad I never had any desire to go back and properly finish it. I also blame that movie for putting the DCCU in such a sloppy mess it still can’t seem to claw its way out. And I say it was more fun than MoS because that was such a drab Superman movie. It may be a better movie than this one for plot, villains, and action, but it failed to capture the essence of the character. This had a colorful camp that fit WW better than dark and brooding fit Superman. In the end neither left me with a disrespect to rewatch.
I actually didn’t like the over the top comedic role of Pine. It seemed out of character from his role in the first movie. His caricature ‘man out of time’ was one a several cliches that hurt the movie over all.
