The play had been there since the onset of training camp.

Actually, it even had been there earlier in the game. That time, Joshua Dobbs and Ethan Wolf could not connect.

The second time? Well that was a highlight-reel, over-the-shoulder catch into the end zone by Tennessee’s junior tight end Wolf.

“It was just a play that we've been working on since beginning of camp,” Wolf said this week on Vol Calls. “We saved it for a good occasion, I guess you could say. I just pulled it down and kind of went from there.”

What might have helped Wolf bounce back from a couple of early dropped balls was a brief pep talk from none other than freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano.

That’s right. The rookie from New Jersey who hasn’t taken a collegiate snap pumped up the guy who’s a third-year starter.

“Jarrett, our freshman quarterback, came up to me at halftime, and this was big by him, I’ve got a pretty good relationship with him, we get along well, and he said just be confident in yourself,” Wolf recalled. “You know you can make those plays. That’s a freshman coming up to a junior telling me I could make those plays.

“I personally am confident to make those plays, and I’m doing everything I can this week in practice to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

What does that say about our QBs? That's 2 huge games this year the guys sitting the bench have made an impact on the game. If there was any doubt as to where this program is headed after this season I hope this answers it. We have leaders at every single position and that's something that hasn't been said in a very long time.

I've said it before, and I'm sticking to it until a starter is named next season and I'm proven wrong-- Guarantano starts next year and Dormady is backup. S Jones gets converted to receiver. JMO

I don't think Dormady sticks around for a third year being a backup QB. Not with the leadership and talent behind him. Just saying.

I'm very high on him as well. I think he's the future, as in the ultimate game changer. Not to go all D4H, but I think JG will be the first Vol to win the Heisman trophy. I think he's special. The future is bright.

He's going to have big shoes to fill, but if he comes out passing like Dobbs is now, then let the dominance commence.

I believe that he will be very good. The future looks bright on Rocky Top!

We're going to be fortunate to have this kid leading this team in the future.

Dobbs replacement success depends on either a miraculous change in the offensive line or his ability to run like Dobbs. Hard to pass when flat on your back.

They only gave up one sack to one of the best d-lines in the sec they're coming around.

Yeah my totally unfounded opinion is that it is great for us if he doesn't start because that will mean Guarantano is phenomenal. However, he is a good qb in his own right and I doubt he would stick around. Jones would become the backup obviously in this scenario.

Im really hoping that the coaching staff is able to carve out a role for S Jones. I would love to see his leadership, energy and competitiveness out on the field.
