WNBA discussion thread?

She has metal rod in leg from a bad break sustained in her freshman season and she has had two serious shoulder injuries, plus her recent wrist injury that required surgery. I do think there are aspects of her mechanics that can be improved and she has said that she is learning to rebuild her shot.

But she does seem to be operating with physical constraints.
If u look at what I posted u will see she has hyper mobility in her arm, and it’s actually with both arms, her form will never look normal, once she releases the ball her arm will go backwards as it’s extended, she also has the same issue with one of her legs.

My top 4 sport teams in terms of intensity of fandom did the following this past season: 1. LADY VOLS -you know the disaster. 2. LSU football - was in the top 5 and completely feel apart, fired their a--hole coach, lost most of their team, and hired the biggest a--hole coach in Kiffin. 3. LSU baseball - reigning champs and was #1 for first few weeks of season and then completely and inexplicably fell apart (was swept by 4 of the last 5 series with SEC opponent) and now won't even make the NCAAs. 4. LSU MBB - they didn't have a fall from the top, but looked better this year until lost best two players to injury and won only 2 or 3 SEC games, fired their coach, lost every player off the team like the LVs, and hired the biggest--hole coach this side of Kiffin in Will Wade who already ruined the program a few year ago.

Yes, this all is connected to the WNBA! I typically only watch a bit of it though somewhat more last year. This year, I so desperately need an enjoyable sports season that I got the WNBA pass so I can pick a couple of teams with talent and good team chemistry so maybe I can cheer for a team that doesn't crash and burn. I really enjoyed the games this past weekend, sampling several games. I know this is a generally disliked team but go Liberty 😎. I like the Storm too, but they don't meet my above criteria. If the Liberty crash and burn this season, I will start cheering for UCONN!

The Connecticut Sun will be relocating to Houston next year as the Comets reincarnated.

Desolate days in Baton Rouge. I had not noticed the collective famine of their program. God Bless you and hang in there, boo! 🤙🏼🧡

I may have to rethink if and when Nashville gets a team, but honestly I'm probably a Liberty fan for life. Less about their stars and more about the experience of attending games; I'm sure this is true for many WNBA teams, but the atmosphere was so much more welcoming/accepting and much less toxic than the NBA/NFL/etc. teams I follow. Maybe corny, but it restored my faith in sports fans a little. Ellie was the icing on the cake.

(Like I said, I bet this is true for most WNBA and maybe even college teams, and I know the Liberty has toxic fans as well, but that positive vibe was something I really appreciated and needed at the time)

Nashville is supposed to get an expansion team in the Upshot League next year.
I don’t know how I’ve missed it, but I only just heard about the Upshot League a few hours ago. I love that more women are getting an opportunity to stay connected to basketball as players in the U.S., even if it’s not the W. I’m happy for this, and especially (of course) for Rennia Davis and Lazaria Spearman. I feel like Davis is a better player than some on W rosters. She is just a teeny bit less quick than the league wants forwards to be, but she has great size, strength, can shoot threes and from mid-range… plus she’s mature.

I hope Zee makes the most of this opportunity because I suspect the UL will occasionally be poached if players really step up and dominate.

Plum went 10-18, 56% for the game. That is very efficient shooting and far away the best % of the others shooting over 10 shots (Wheeler, Hamby, Atkins and Ogwumike). It's not like she was pulling an Arike.

The defense appeared to be rather porous by everyone, however.
KP will always get her shots up that's for sure and sometimes she'll score efficiently. The problem is she also demands to have the ball in her hands at all times and she is just not a veru good a playmaker. Probably mainly because she doesn't wish to playmate for anyone else.. She had only two assists Sunday and the Sparks assisted on only 35% of their field goals.

Not sure how it escaped Pebbly how well the Sparks played last year when they had Alimand at PG. And plum off ball.

Nekka had a good game but there was zero offense from the rest of the team. Everyone stands in corners uninvolved, waiting for that elusive catch and shoot. 73 points is never going to win a game for this team. Not a good future outlook when your depth is Erica Wheeler and Emma Cannon. Too bad young player development doesn't appear to be a priority because they need to train up Latson in a hurry. And see what Fagan could bring.

In spite of her lip service I just don't think Roberts gives two hoots in hell about defense. She lives to outscore everyone. Which makes the loss of two steady if not spectacular scores like Jackson and Stevens really hurt.

Brink is going to remain basically unplayable in the current ref environment which is really unfortunate .

I'm curious who's putting money on the line this year. Havent heard who the investors are

.A successful women's G League would be great. Maybe this is something Jewel Spear would be interested in?
The Nashville team would be wise to load up on beloved Lady Vols who haven't quite stuck or made it to the WNBA. We are going to Savannah this summer, and if the timing works out we'll go watch Zee play.

Investors include Ann Meyers, Cheryl Miller, Tamika Catchings, and 90 other athletes, entertainers, and business people, and apparently the league has investment commitments of >$40M. Former WNBA president Donna Orendor is the league commissioner. It seems like they've done their homework to establish legitimacy. Plans are to expand to 30+ teams in the next few years. It apparently is going to serve as some kind of developmental league for the W.

Schaquilla Nunn was one of the original featured players for the league, although I don't see her name on a roster now. She's been playing in several overseas leagues.

The skill lever and quality of play is enjoyable to watch. The players aren't allowed four steps as in no traveling and no dunks. So apparent how much more skilled the top players are versus college players.

the negative to me is the far majority of articles written are about perceived interpersonal agreements between players. childish writers and social media trash abound.
