WNBA discussion thread?

I have to actively keep my mind open with regard to Ms Reese. Personally? She strikes me as a bitch. That doesn’t preclude her as having an MVP quality ceiling, nor me admiring her game.

Do i believe throwing teammates under the bus qualifies as leadership? Not so much. Even if they suck pretty bad or are missing games to “manage” their season exposure to injury.

Yeah, I think saying those things publicly only serves to potentially put a wall of distrust between Reese and any current and future teammates.

..not sure about that.
As a long time Sky season tix holder prior to moving to Texas, I have seen what Angel speaks of first hand, and she is absolutely correct. Her assertions about the players was more a point at the horrible and cheap-ass management of the Sky. They have been well documented as horribly managed and have made terrible decision after terrible decision since Candace Dupree first forced her way out. They have thrown away lottery picks for bags of chips. They have had all their great players leave save Allie Quigley-even Sloot left. Candace Parker, a Chicagoland native, spoke to how the Sky is such a poverty franchise when she went to Vegas.

AR in an emotional moment could have chosen her words better. But she was right. They need better players. Can’t keep good ones, can’t draft good ones.

Furthermore, the Sky GM called her out in the same Chicago paper earlier this summer saying she needed to be better. That is some BS to turnaround and suspend her when they talk ish about her.

Anyway it all sucks as my 2 favorite teams are the 2 poverty teams in the league and consequently are the worst teams in the league. Dallas has been so moronic that this is the worst I’ve felt about the W hobbling to the end of the season since we purchased our season tickets in 2007. That’s with Bueckers who, once the UConn stink was scrubbed off her, has been electrifying on the court and a joy off the court.

As for Angel. Like any good Tenn fan I loathed her until the NCAA championship game. I must salute her determination, willingness to stand up for herself, her ferocity, and even her carriage. She is such a great counterpoint to CC’s (not Cc herself) brigade of entitled, racist, faux fans.

Well hell. Storm won on a last second bucket so Sparks are out.

LA did its part, they did beat the mercury, mostly because Phoenix played their bench most of the second half. Huge game for Rae with a career high 20 points. Rickea barely played in the second half and did not play at all in the fourth quarter. Don’t know if she’s banged up or what. Maybe Rae was just better tonight.

LA plays the Aces at home Thursday night. Good chance the Aces rest a lot of players. LA could look at it as a mini playoff game, if they win they’ll end up 22-22. They’ve had about five other chances to reach .500 and have not been able to do it. It would be a good way to end the season.

Shows the importance of every single game. Two teams that the Sparks beat 3x will make the playoffs ahead of them bc of costly losses in winnable home games to the Sky, the Mystics and the Fever.
Too bad about the storm outcome but a pro career night for Rae. Frustrating how under utilized Rickea has been these last 2 games.

Nice job. Ya encouraged me to back away from the ledge. Still not a big fan but will always tip a cap to game. She’s got that in spades.

Exactly. We can go on forever about how right AR was, how lousy the sky organization is, how much the roster needs to be improved etc. I said immediately when they got Sloot and Kia Nurse as their starting back court and Ariel Atkins as their big trade acquisition that they were an unserious organization.

But neither that nor what fans think about any of it matters one iota. It’s the trail of bad feeling among some players and GMs and reputation for locker room chaos that is going to come back to haunt her. It’s a matter of her branding starting to clash with the interest of her career.

Turns out Rickea has been on minutes restriction the last two games. Apparently aggravated the ankle by playing 35 minutes in both games in Atlanta. She's been on the injury report since the ankle roll occurred, always listed as questionable or probable, but minute restrictions are not required to be made public. She's back to questionable for tonight's game.

The loathsome sports gamblers community has spent the last couple of days ripping RJ to shreds. Apparently they thought a very easy parlay for Tuesday night was for her to score more than 10 points, which duh of course she would. Except the minute restriction clocked in when she was at 7 points. Costs them money so they've been attacking.

The Aces are certain to heavily rest starters tonight, just like Phoenix did, so the Sparks have a good chance to finally, finally reach 500. And wouldn't that be ironic since they've had about 5 chances to do that before, all in games which if they had won, would have put them in the playoffs. So naturally tonight when they're already eliminated they'll reach 500. Its still a good accomplishment for a team that only won eight games last year.

Good information (on RJ's minutes restriction). That explains quite a bit.

The rise of hostility from sports gamblers is worrisome. The betting platforms keep pushing people to make more and more nuanced bets and assume larger losses without any consideration of the consequences.

I think the Aces are still playing for 2nd place, and with a loss, I think Atlanta would claim 2nd over them, so they may still be playing to win to get homecourt advantage in a hypothetical semifinal series with Atlanta.

They probably care about this less, but they're also only 3 wins shy of tying LA's 2001 record of 18 straight wins.
