WNBA discussion thread?

Those social media post don't help matters much. If you look at the stats for this season, Clark is having a very mediocre sophomore campaign (albeit greatly hampered by injuries). Collier, Wilson, Ionescu, yes Angel Reese among others are all having strong seasons. It is a case of celebrating Clark to disparage all other players in the WNBA. This misogynist circumstance isn't Clark's fault but we need to understand why all the "culture warriors" embrace her in the very specific way they do.

Is this graph a very positive sign covered in a bunch of very negative captions or am I crazy? 2.2M with no Clark is great.

It’s a biased chart. I read that at the peak viewership the game hit 4+ million.

Also CC was literally at the game lol. The narratives these people try to spin is crazy.

I checked the comments on this X post. Fortunately, most are pointing out that 2.2 million viewers, though down from 2024 is almost 3 times the viewership from 2023 (and 5 times from 2021), so being the 2nd highest watched game ever, is a good sign and it indicates a high degree of fan stickiness.

You can make a lot of money under today's rules & practices by just moving money, without ever buying or selling a product or service. So anything would be believeable regarding the WNBA and owners and hot franchises.

I appreciate all you posters with more than a cursory knowledge sharing your facts and insights.

Opinions are easy. Understanding reality in all its complexity is a pain in the challenge today.
It is an advantage of these old school message boards that there can be an exchange of information and more or less reasoned discussion. In contrast, Facebook, X, tik tok and other social media platforms are places where it is impossible to get ahead of the disinformation memes.
Fact checking is screaming into the wind.

Right now, social media is parroting the W lost 50 million last year and so the players owe the league money. I would be that not one of those posters (who not are AI bots, which accounts for about 60% of X traffic) has any understanding of the deficit number they keep citing as gospel.

And this is a problem with LLM AI -- it's "results" will reflect the percentages it finds posted or requested.

Frequently I will google a question that is different from what most people are asking. So I get their results, not the results for the question I asked. No matter how I re-word my question, the results will be for the question most people have asked.

In that way, even in the "objective" cyber world, the $50M is going to spread just like gossip.

A number of threads at Reddit are pre-release of loss number.

you take time out from your 25 posts a day in the men's forum to attack the women's post

yeah,,,you are SO credible...NOT!

stay in the men's forum...we won't miss you,,,promise
You don't run this site... Even though you act like you do.

Every individual can post in any forum under any thread they desire..so sick and tired of the GATEKEEPERS actually believing they run any forum...

BTW: I will save you some time from snooping around in my post history. I post in every sports forum because I love all Vols sports not just one....have a terrific day ...😆

Another win for the sparks and another 20+ game for Rickea!

How about this? It’s true, not just coach puffery. If there was a Most Improved Defense award, Rickea would be in contention for it. She absolutely locked “all star” Citron down.

Efficiency remains a problem but resiliency never is. She was dismal shooting the first half but hit every big shot in the second. Four 3s was huge for her, If she becomes even medium consistent fm 3 she’ll average 20 ppg.

Also had 4 assist again, has 10 assists the last 3 games.

Another great chance Thursday against Conn. Could be Sparks 10 th win yippee. Then it gets harder.

Good run of 17 mins for Rae, 7 pts a couple of assists and a block. Also 4 fouls lol. Roberts seems to enjoy and be challenged by Rae’s wild child energy

Julie A man. What a difference shes made!

Another victim of soph slump is Aliyah Edward’s. After a fantastic Unrivaled season, she’s barely a blip on the Mystics radar. Not that she’s playing poorly, they just don’t play her. They seem all the way in on Kiki I and of course Shakira Austin. AE is just odd woman out. Wish she’d get traded..

no I don't run this site and don't claim to...But I have worked in the women's program to make it better and build it every chance I get and in whatever forum I occupy

And when someone posts or reposts posts lies, I take offense.

If someone can show me a post where these players actually wore the shirts depicted,,,I will quickly and succinctly apologize for my action, until then I stand by my action.

CC does not deserve NBA money and those other three owe the NBA nothing.
It is the fault of the WNBA itself!
They have let this league run as a possession and not as a business and have not marketed the game to the proper demographic and are just now finally headed in the right direction.

29 years later they still bend to and get support from the men. And if something is in existence for 29 years and is not standing alone,,,its no fault or responsibility to the players,,it is a fault to the org's directors...PUT the shirts on them

Clark being at the game and playing in the game is two different things. Yes,Clark was there but injured and didn't play.

Exactly. I'm guessing there were a heckuva lot of people who tuned in just long enough to find out Clark wasn't playing before noping out of watching anymore of the broadcast. It is what it is.

2.2M is average viewership, not people who tuned in for 10 seconds and then changed the channel. "Guessing" is right

I understand that, but the fact remains there were fewer viewers this year than last, and I'm sure many of the people who chose not to watch this year based their decisions on the fact that Clark wasn't playing.

I’ll agree with you then. I don’t think most players in the W hate CC or are jealous of her or any of those dumb narratives, but it doesn’t help when people put their foot in their mouths either.

Edit: For what it’s worth, I don’t like the narrative that “women are the worst critics of other women” since you can go online and see some of the nastiest things ever typed out being sent by men to some of these players. Also I am a woman and I don’t like CC. But I dislike her because I am a UConn fan and also a basketball fan who remembers pre-CC hype days — though when I say “I dislike her” it’s more I dislike the way her style of play, the rabid and sometimes toxic fanbase of people who just started watching two years ago, and the obnoxious media. I don’t know CC personally and she’s probably a lovely person off the court. And I would argue that is generally the normal opinion of people who “dislike” her.

As far as the WNBA goes, the male critics are by far the worst. For months, Instagram insisted on putting WNBA lowlights and memes in my algorithm. You're a bro. You like sports. Here's what's going viral in the sports world. I never interact with it. I don't watch the lowlights. I scroll past. If a friend sends it to me, I back out. I don't understand what's so entertaining about a sports blooper where the intent is to denigrate the women's league. 8 YO me was all over any kind of sports blooper. I watched an SI Baseball Blooper on VHS at least 25x. But the grownup bros seem to LOVE this **** when it's...people they don't like?

Lebron stans love lowlights and memes the 90's because they hate MJ
MJ stans love lowlights and memes from the present because they hate Lebron
Bros love WNBA lowlights and memes from the present because?...

2.2m without the league's biggest star, basically tripling the pre-2024 record...it's a great sign of health for the league. Did the NBA even get 2.2M for the AS game? I have no idea what those ratings are. I just know I never watch.

Michael Jordan had a bad season in his second year due to an injury (sound familiar)

MJ wasn't bad, he just didn't play. I clipped his per minute stats, and points and stocks were way up, although shooting stats took hits.

He also had a natty and a gold medal at that point. We gotta settle down a little bit with CC.
