WNBA discussion thread?

Well, the 2025 season is a wrap. The mecury fought hard but they gave the game away with too many TOs and silly fouls. Per the Aces, I can’t recall a team that hit the mid season looking like they needed a rebuild and a new coach and then flipped a switch to steam roll to a title.

No shock that A’ja Wilson was the finals MVP.
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert was roundly booed when presenting the MVP and championship trophies.
What a crazy season. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a turnaround like the aces made. They were absolutely dead in the water midseason, including a 50 point loss to the links. Congrats to all of them on pulling back from the edge of that cliff.

What can you say about Asia Wilson? Definitely closing in on GOAT status I love Candace but. . .

Interesting the contribution to the Ace’s success of Dana Evans and any Lisa Smith, both players whose careers seemed dead in the water when the Aces picked them up. Funny how just being in the right situation makes such a difference in performance.

It’s going to be a really interesting off-season. It’s been a bit quiet the last few days regarding the W negotiations. I don’t see how Phee and Cathy can sit at the same negotiating table again. We’ll have to keep a close eye on all that.

Reshuffling of the Unrivaled teams comes out in November. It’ll be interesting to see where our girls end up. Six Sparkies in that league.

CP3 was better at playing the "point forward" who could orchestrate the half court offense, which is not in A'ja's bag of tricks. But on just about every other dimension, Wilson has become the better player (which is saying a lot).

At 29, she probably has 2 to 3 more seasons where she can be this absolutely dominating force but if the Aces, want a 4th title, they are going need to add some new talent around her.

The repurposed role players you mentioned, plus Jewel Lloyd, went on a real hot streak during the playoffs but I would not bet next season on lightning striking twice.

I want her in LA with Rickea and Rae.
So happens Jordan is exactly the player that Sparks need. A lockdown perimeter defender who's athletic and versatile and really doesn't care much about scoring. The last thing that Sparks need is another offensive minded player. But the first thing they need is defense and hustle. Jordan would be perfect!

Probably never happen though, JH is still on rookie contract.

Completely agree. Chelsea Gray also had a good bounce back but would not bet on her repeating that performance. I think both she and Lloyd have seen their best days. And actually it was Jackie Young and her consistency that saved the day. great as Wilson is, we saw during their mid season nightmare that even she can't get it done alone.

Imagine the mission Phee and the Lynx are going to be on next year! If there is a next year.
