Oh no!!! Lately it feels like the Dubya is cursed and in rapid decline. Regardless, I feel strongly that fans of women in sports need to rally behind it stronger than EVER because it will be a sad, sad day if young girls playing now no longer had the WNBA to aspire to. Even in its weakened state, it’s STILL vital to female youth, if only as pipe-dream material.
If the Dubya were to go away altogether, it would certainly result in a drastic shift in the hearts and minds of young girls in regard to “what’s possible if I work hard enough.”
I hope fans will continue to support the WNBA through these rough times — for the very young girls who need to see older women being strong and playing sports and not being afraid to compete. Even though we older adults can see that the league is far less than perfect, the young girl in fifth grade who needs female professional athletes to look up to and emulate aren’t nearly as critical as we are. They just need to know that maybe they can play in the WNBA someday. So we’ve got to support it through these lean times.

To be honest, I'm really turned off by the sense of entitlement that some of the more vocal (and social media savvy) younger players are showing. It's common knowledge that the league is not self sustainable and exists solely because the NBA is willing to subsidize it, so they need to stop acting like they are victimized. Instead of being the ones willing to sacrifice their time and energy to promote the league year round, they choose to go overseas to make as much as possible, show up tired for the WNBA season and sleepwalk through what has this far been a schedule full of unwatchable games...all while calling detractors of the league "sexist" and complaining about how they don't get enough money and can't fly charter flights that the teams can't afford. If it's their priority to play year round and make as much money for themselves, then good for them. Just don't bitch about why others aren't willing to lose money to grow the league when the players are not.
The league will die slowly unless the top players are willing to sacrifice for the good of the future generation of players. Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes and Cynthia Cooper are probably shaking their head listening to the players incessant complaining.

I totally disagree with this post. Players should definitely speak up for better and more equal treatment. The attitude that they should sit down and shut up is troubling for multiple reasons that are nearly self explanatory...
Nowhere is the disparity between men and women’s treatment greater perhaps than in the NBA and WNBA. The WNBA def should be subsidized by the NBA, and it should be to an even greater extent. Regardless of whether the league is self sustaining, women deserve the opportunity to play basketball professionally, and the NBA should make it a priority to make the WNBA an opportunity for women. The difference in treatment between the women and men players is staggering and goes beyond simple economics.
I think it's up to the NBA to determine if anything beyond economics matters. They're the ones making the investment. IMO, it's a bit much to insist that they not only continue to fund a money-losing enterprise, but pump in even more money and also pay higher salaries than the league can afford just because...they're women? Seems kind of patronizing to me.
The difference in treatment between the women and men players is because the men players generate enough to pay their high salaries, and the women don't. It amazes me that people are calling this a wage gap issue. It's not like there are female players that are on NBA teams being paid pittance compared to the male players. They operate as two separate leagues., where one is highly profitable and the other is not.
The players can voice their opinion about this "injustice", but the NBA could very well walk away and let the league operate/fund itself, and then what? It's no secret that many teams (Houston, Sacramento probably the most successful of them) quickly fell apart once they moved out from under NBA ownership. It's great that the league is there, but it will not be there for long if the players continue to demand without being willing to give first and put in the effort to grow the league organically. The WNBA may be the most competitive women's basketball league in the world, but it has not been the top priority for most of the current women's players.

Washington destroyed Conn. Without those shooters, Conn is in big trouble. No way can Alyssa Thomas and Jones continue to manufacture points like they did early on. Thomas is a great athlete but can't shoot.
If EDD had hit a few more of her open shots (she had many), this game would've been even more lopsided.

She's packed on some pounds but overall she's been playing quite well for Connecticut. She's found her niche as a three point specialist which is much different than what her role was at Tennessee. Well done carving out a solid career for herself...I didn't expect her to be in the league this long to be honest.
Considering there are dozens and dozens of super-successful college players who didn't last long at all in the WNBA, I couldn't be more happy for Shekinna that she has managed to keep a stateside job. If we were to go back through a list of all the college all-Americans over the past 20 years our eyes would bulge at the number of players that didn't stay on a roster for very long or were far less successful than we would have thought -- including many Lady Vols.
