Maybe the ones chanting BBB at games?
Maybe the constant calls into shows saying fire Zo.
Maybe the talk about boycotting games?
Maybe the talk that a petition should he started?
Maybe the talk about how bad people wanted Pearl back even before a petition?

Would you like more?

What do you mean by "the talk of"? Who was talking? And to whom?

I wasn't wrong. The attendance was fine, and if fan support had been such an issue, we would have had Buzz Peterson level of attendance.

The radio, Facebook and twitter were full of negativity. Stokes talked about the fans on the radio and twitter and how he had to ignore it because of the negativity.

surely recruits and their families took the time to completely understand the nuances in the BBB petition. Of course they did

I'm sure they spent as many hours FRETTING over it...as we have on here...dead issue..FIDO

LOL at Austin Nichols dad. I don't see Memphis big guys putting up the numbers that stokes and maymon are... so fail on his part.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere.

A couple of highly targeted recruits chose other schools due to the recruits and their families being aware of the petition to bring back Bruce Pearl.

I hate it, but lets remember back several weeks ago when we looked like dead meat and might be lucky to make the NIT. Pearle was the best coach UT has had seen the 70's, so to want him back seems to make a little sense especially when most thought we were underachieving lately. Think LSU wishes they'd got Saban back?

I understand that the situation made it unlikely UT would offer even if Martin had flopped and got fired. Bottom line is we want to win and Pearle won from day 1, so the dream wasn't to get back a loser. I, like most UT fans think Pearle was nailed by the NCAA for what occurred. Think that would have happened to UK or Duke? Enough on that because it is water under the bridge.

I hope Martin is the answer, but it sure didn't look like it for almost 3 years. After this run, he'll get an extension and a raise I'm sure. That still doesn't mean he's going to get UT in the tourney on a regular basis, but I sure hope he does. I'm for UT period, no matter the coach! Great run BB Vols and good luck next year.

Austin Nichols' father Mark said that after speaking with Martin about his offense, he didn't feel that Martin's offense was the right fit for his son.

Pretty sure this is the whole point of the recruiting process from the player's standpoint, finding the right fit. It certainly doesn't seem to be related to instability in the program or fan petitions. If we freaked out every time a recruit cited this reason for choosing another school, VolNation would need another server farm.

I find the idea that someone wouldn't come here because of a petition pretty weak. I get the petition wasn't exactly a good thing for Martin, but because some people got carried away with it means you can't come play for Martin?

Maybe so, but a more believable scenario is that the petition is just the tip of the iceberg and is just another in a long line of evidence that indicates a program headed for turbulence and change. Recruits want stability, not uncertainty.

I'm sure you're right and it has had zero effect on recruiting or morale and is just a local, message board story. Seriously, it's our passion that should be commended instead of everyone pointing out the sheer idiocy it took the create that petition.

if it had a chance to hurt UT basketball what was the point in doing it?

the security of a coach is a big deal. Looking at a list of 35,000 names who want the coach replaced is hard to overcome

go ahead and deflect the main point of volbeast - that is that justice decommitted before the petition ever existed.

you initial post on the matter was "surely recruits and their families took the time to completely understand the nuances in the BBB petition. Of course they did"....and in justice had decommited before the thing was even created......

It is my understanding that Cuonzo has been looking since the end of last season. He wasn't happy that he didn't get extended last year. With the news that he may have lost some support from some bosters, the extent of which is unknown, he may take another job if one is offered.

We have had one commit to decommit, which happened before the petition. It happened when he and his family saw the offense and didn't feel it was a good fit.

Now, the misinformed will blame the fans or whatever, but thats typical here. True information means little. Drama is better, even if untrue.
