In my opinion, we should let these guys senior years play out. It seems as if both of them have very recently improved and will continue to do so. I may be wrong, and unlike a lot of folks around here, will be glad to admit it once the time comes. The staff likes these kids, to the point that VQ said Phillips was number 2 on the board. Let things play out before we whole sale give up hope. We should be better than that.

Get a load of this newb... We are Vols, hear us bi!@%.

Nah, I agree Chip.

edit: I know your not a newb. Just used that word meaning you must not be familiar with how some fans around here work.

Stokes was part of the 1st class Zo signed. Much like Woodson is part of the first class Tyndall signed. If you are playing college ball while the rest of the people in your class are still in high school, you aren't part of the next years class imo. In Stokes' case we had to have a 2011 scholly available to sign him. That makes him part of the 2011 class.

I'm big on recruiting good/ranked players. You have to have a top 20 type class in a 4 year window if you want to win the national championship. Tyndall's first class that now includes Mostella (top 50), Woodson (top 80), Owens, Punter etc would be a top 20 class when taken together. That means there's less pressure on this class to be a top 20 class. I also see pretty nice offers for Phillips. Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss etc. He's not some dramatic reach like many seem to be making him out to be right now.

Yeah but then that makes the 2012 class garbage and they can't twist it around to make their point.

I'm not proving a point lol just asking a question

I know that, which is why I said you were not doing so. The argument has been made so many times I felt I needed to say what I did. I wasn't trying to negate your post at all, and perhaps I shouldn't have posted, I just wanted to point out Stokes was a part of that class. I am sorry if you took offense, that was not my intent.

It's very simple, according to 247 rankings that first full class was ranked 43rd, we will see where this one ends up ranked, hopefully it blows that one out of the water and compares favorably to Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, LSU, A&M etc.

What class was he in according to Rivals?

Edit: never mind, looked it up, he's in 2012

Just to clarify my stance here, I think Tyndall is really good with Xs and Os. Just not a huge fan of his recruiting so far.

That was his high school class, but not his recruiting class. He was in the same grade as all the other freshman signees in the 2011 class.

This is September, 2014. There are two commitments. There are no LOI's. The cart is out but the horse is still in the barn eating oats! Geez, Louise!

If this was football, you would have a better point. You don't take commitments in basketball in September unless you are prepared to sign the kids. Sometimes you back away from a kid who commits really early, but September senior commits in basketball are pretty much solid.

Really the 15 class only needs a pg
Unless hubbs straight up balls he will be back mostella will be back Carmichael and Owens so either miller or Crawford and I'd be happy

You can't recruit with a 1 year vision though, you have to recruit for the future. With Richardson leaving, Mostella, Hubbs and Woodson become the only top 150 rated recruits on the team, that would be about dead last in the leagues in terms of simply "talent" on a roster.

Now maybe Tyndall is a Bo Ryan, Gregg Marshall or Brad Stevens, but history suggests strongly that you've gotta have much more talent than that to be very successful.

2 of our 3 scholarships are taken up. We are still in on some highly rated prospects. I believe we took them too early. Both of these guys will sign in the early signing period.

Unless when you say, "There are no LOIs" you are saying that we are going to part ways with these guys before they sign their LOI. Surely you wouldn't be suggesting we turn down kids who bleed orange and committed to be here? Is this a new leaf you are turning over?

I believe it will take a lot more than one Top 20 class every four years to win a national title. I believe we need to average Top 20 classes to have a legit shot at it.
