With our injuries

Heading into the final week of the regular season and Tennessee is in good shape for a spot in the SUGAR Bowl - the SEC's premier bowl game, outside of the CFP. There may not be another coach in CFB that could've taken over when Coach Jones did and have this team in line to play in a New Year's 6 Bowl game in his 4th year.

It's absolutely amazing that there are so many window-lickers that can't see the program's steady improvement, despite the unbelievable amount of injuries and other adversities this team has faced.

He blew a chance at winning a division title, 2 years in a row. When will you realize that participation trophies don't mean jack s***

And lopsided schedule, 9 wins will be impressive. Butch Jones is still my homeboy.

Flame away negavols.

All this talk of firing Butch is just ridiculous. Yes, this season didn't turn out exactly like everybody wished..... yes, his tired cliches are old.....yes, he hasn't demonstrated that he's a good X's and O's game day coach....and yes, he deserves a lot of the criticism he's getting.............

BUT.....

He has (or at least still has the possibility to) won more games every year he's been here.

He has went out and hired what we all thought was (and may still be) a very capable DC. The amount of injuries to our defense this year is mind blowing so it's really hard to tell. (Sure thought we'd be better even with the injuries though)

He has recruited what most consider to be a super star QB of the future and we all know how important the QB is.

He has managed to bring our program out of a serious funk and has done so cleanly. (No NCAA crap)

Both lists can go on and on and there probably ain't many more tired of Butch's crap than me but come on guys..FIRING HIM IS RIDICULOUS AT THIS POINT. We had one horrible game this year (one horrible loss at least) and Dobbs played the worst game of his career so the blame goes on him for that one.

Not being too negative, but I must observe that Florida's injury list is as long as ours, and they went out and bumbled their way to an impressive road win to seal the division title. We had the chance to do that and lost to a bunch of chickens, and that was with two weeks to prepare. All that being said, this season was satisfactory (assuming no more losses), especially if we slip into the Sugar Bowl. Perhaps we can get a third try at Oklahoma...

Please, no more Sooners. Not this year at least.

Seems like you're the only one talking about participation trophies. In fact, I didn't say anything that you addressed in your reply. I never mentioned the division race this year or last. I simply pointed out what a lot of people seem to ignore, in order to continue their agenda.

I would have liked to win the East and the SEC, be undefeated, and heading to the CFP. That doesn't mean I'm going to throw out the baby with the bath water and ignore the obvious ascent of the program over the past 4 years.

I don't think that's negative at all. I am disappointed too. There are certainly things to be concerned about, but there are a lot more reasons to be optimistic about the program and it's direction.

Coach Jones may end up not getting it done, but the program has shown continued overall improvement each year - including this year. Until there is no longer any tangible improvement shown, Jones, most of the staff, the university, and the players deserve the support of the fans, imo.

I'm scared to death of Vandy. That tells you how much faith I have in Butch.

After watching Vandy destroy Ole Miss last night I am concerned as well. They have a very good running game with Webb and a sound defense that will scheme to prevent Dobbs from beating them. This game scares the heck out of me.

Has Butch Jones just missed his best chance to ever win the east, I'm afraid he has indeed.

It sounds like winning the east is not the objective, according to Butch we are going to three straight bowl games which apparently has never been done before at TN.

I don't think he has missed his chances.

Next year East is wide open. UT has deepest talent still if they don't get injured like this year. Because of injuries this year team has a lot of experience.

Now in order to do so, he needs to get rid of Debord and Mahoney and get a real OC and OL coach. The only reason the Debord hire made sense is I thought the OL would at least be the strength of the team. That didn't pan out at the beginning of the season when they were somewhat healthy.

Their injury list isn't nearly as long or concentrated in one area.

Some of their injured players were able to play yesterday and made an impact (CeCe Jefferson for one)

We could have beaten Alabama if they had red zone play like LSU did yesterday on 5 blown drives.

Here is my problem with the injuries. Yes we've had a outrageous number of them. These players have played for what 4 or 5 games now. We see no improvement on defense at all. We've gave up 700 yards two weeks in a row. Is it really that bad or are the guys tuning out any coaching they're getting? It really shouldn't look this bad.

I know our rush defense has been horrendous. But, if you take out your top 5 DTs and best LB, any defense turns into swiss cheese.

We weren't impressive before the injuries.

somewhat true...you do realize the OL had injuries to start the season and our VOLS lost the entire starting LB corps and best CB in the first 3 games...right?

After JRM went down, there seemed to be no one able to seal the edge...which is, in and of itself, disturbing. Jumper was serviceable in the middle, but weakness on the edge showed.

Now, with no DT's left...that is a visible weakness the last 2 teams have exploited.

UT's injury list is crazy. Looked like they were starting 4th string DT's...and the O-line didn't fair much better.

Florida won their SEC West road game because on 4th and goal Guice took the toss and went right. The play was designed to go left and he would have walked in untouched if he had gone left.

We lost our SEC West road game because Berry fumbled deep in our territory on a blatant targeting hit and the officials refused to throw a flag.

If Guice runs the play the way he's practiced it or if an official makes the right call does that make Butch a better coach or UT a better team? Sometimes the breaks just don't go your way
