would we have beaten:

LSU?
UGA?
USC?
UK?
Ole Miss?
Vandy?

I can say yes to 4 of these easily. That would mean a likely 7-5 season. Food for thought for the negateers who predict both a 5-7/6-6 season and are also disappointed with how we played today.

I love watching this team play, they are improving right before our eyes. F-ing sucks to lose to UF, but it's still great to be a Tennessee Vol.

I saw an inexperienced team get better today, I like the improvement I'm seeing, just don't like the losses. Go Vols!

Effort aside, it is laughable we would beat 4 of those teams with the execution we had today. You guys must like those 3rd and long's we continually gave up today, not to mention completely effing up a TD.

"You guys must like those 3rd and long's we continually gave up today, not to mention completely effing up a TD."

Brantley's incredible accuracy and the monsters pass protecting had nothing to do with that. This was Brantley's best game ever, and he's a good qb. I'm not saying every single conversion doesn't sting.. but that's why UF and CUM are a great team right now.

Team never quit today! Just ask Demps. Now we have to learn to win again. Hate that we lost, but I'm am Damn Proud of this team! And I'm Proud To be a VOL!

Brantleys accuracy was because he had all the time in the world to throw the ball cause we never blitzed him or even threatend the blitz.

I would have to agree with this. It would be hard to beat 4 of those teams with as many penalties and turnovers as we had today. Not to mention special teams problems. We have a long way to go. Besides, as someone said earlier, Florida is not exactly a great football team this year.

Bottomline, effort was obviously there today, execution was nowhere to be found. According to most on this board, effort is all that is needed.

Maybe it has to do w/ the personnel along with the lack of experience but I couldnt help to think we looked like a Randy Sanders offense and a John Chavis defense. Run it up the middle on second and long on O and give the receivers too much cushion on third and long on D. We also looked alot better than dooley let on in the shotgun. Only playaction we're good at is kinda like last year w/ Crompton doin that little pass to the fullback or tight end in the flat. Forget about throwin it deep if we're under center. Just some observations of the game from my perspective.

You stop rushing 6 if everytime you do it, all 6 are blocked. It leaves too few in coverage. We did blitz, rewatch the game.

Good post. I've said before that I see similarities between this and the 1988 team.

I'll take it if 2011 turns out like '89.

Execution? Having a defensive end covering a guy like Demps simply isn't going to do it. Execution was abysmal today.

But, they gave good effort, so we should all be happy.

Great point. 0-6, and the last string of losses the Vols had for nearly 20 years.

For the record ...
I did not say we had great execution. I asked a question: with the way we played today, would we...

So rjd, with the effort we had today, and our current level of execution, how do you think we would have fared against LSU, UGA, USC, Ole Miss, Vandy, UK, if we had played them today? (there's no reason to complain about our execution, which is obviously a major work in progress)

We made strides today. We improved; we didn't quit.

We are clearly a 6 - 6 team. BUT we must continue to compete like this every week (if we let down, we will get beat), and we must continue to improve.

Next lesson: learn how to win. Let's be honest, that might come in late October / early November. If we can finish out the season, HUGE, HUGE, HUGE for this team.
