Do you seriously not get why you are laughed at? Really?

Player comps don't mean you'll have the same career. You guys are taking the Emmitt Smith comparison to mean that I think Dylan Sampson will be the all-time leading rusher in NFL history. I highly doubt that happens. Emmitt had a very fortunate career in terms of health as well as the o-line he played with. Its unlikely Dylan has similar longevity or supporting cast. Nonetheless could he have similar success at times? Sure. The comparison is based more on physical traits and playing styles. Like Emmitt, Dylan is pretty short and compact with nice burst and balance. Both are very good at getting skinny through holes as well as being slippery when first contacted.

Back in 2017 I compared Alvin Kamara to Marshall Faulk before the draft. While Alvin hasn't had exactly the same career as Marshall I still think that was a good comparison. In the history of the NFL there's probably not a better comp for Alvin eventhough he never reached the MVP status that Marshall reached. Similarly, I doubt Sampson ever becomes the MVP of the league like Emmitt did but I do believe he can become a Pro Bowl caliber RB with a playing style similar.

They don’t have similar size, for one. Emmitt had about 25-30 pounds on him. Emmitt was built like a bowling ball and ran like one too. That is not Sampson.

Sampson looks and plays bigger than his listed weight. And Emmitt was no bowling ball. He was a slippery back who hid behind his mammoth o-line and burst through the hole for 4 yards every time he touched the ball. Sampson is similar in how he sets up his blocks and explodes through the line.

Emmitt was 5’8” 225 pounds. You made a bad take, you don’t have to lie to defend it. Sampson can have a very nice career, but he isn’t Emmitt Smith. He’s more like Ameer Abdullah, who has had a 10 year career.

In college he was 201 lbs according to the college football hall of fame. Inductee | Emmitt James Smith III 2006

That's the same weight Sampson is right now. It's natural for guys to gain weight as they age. Don't be surprised if Sampson gains weight like Emmitt did as he ages.

It is insane that the more simpleminded Vol fans look at Vols of varying degrees and say “who is an all time great player of the same skin tone or position that I can compare this Vol to?” So much so that you will use a listed weight that was recorded nearly 40 years after the fact as justification.

I’ve seen Josiah Jordan James compared to Magic Johnson, Kyle Alexander compared to Kareem Abdul Jabbar, John Fulkerson compared to Kevin Love, Nico Iamaleava and Joey Aguilar compared to Peyton Manning, and now Dylan Sampson compared to Emmitt Smith. Idk how people like you made it out of childhood without dying in a tragically stupid accident.

P.S. Some undrafted former Vols have signed contracts with pro teams. Hopefully, those remaining who seek a shot with the pros will get picked up in the weeks to come. GBO.

You're the one that made their weight such a big deal. Don't get mad that in college they were the same size after acting like their difference in weight was some big deal.

I'm still waiting for Dobbs to make the HOF.....
