With Harbaugh headed to Michigan...

I actually think he will want to win it all at the college level before going back to the pros. I do think it would be interesting if the right opening came up and he had a shot at total control.

I think JH has a bit of Larry Brown in him. Go somewhere, win, get bored, annoy people and move on. I would guess if a team with talent flops a season, and he gets offered total control like you said, he'll move on.

Lol Not even a little mad, just speaking facts. He had 2 crap years and 1 good and 1 great year in college. He had pretty much ran his course in San Fran, his and the front office's fault. I appreciate the work he did in SF, but his development of Kaep was terrible and I was ready for a change. I'm just hoping they get someone that can get him improving.

Wasn't Stanford 0-12 or 1-11 the year before he got there? 4 years later they were like 12-1?

Check out what Stanford was like before he got there. Completely misleading. It was no accident Stanford was really good after he left.

Fair point. They did have Luck the 2 years after he left though. I think he's a really good coach, but my original point is people acting like Michigan just hired the next Tom Osborne are probably off. If I'm wrong and they start contending for National Titles every year, I'll admit I'm wrong. I do think his name will carry huge weight with recruits though.

Can't wait for him to stick it to Urban and Franklin. JH has been known to run up the score on rivals. He'll turn Michigan back into a powerhouse.
I hope so. I've always had a lot of respect for Michigan's football program even if they did steal the '97 Heisman from us. And they're rivals of Ohio State which I consider to be the Bama, esp with urban cryer being there, of the rust belt.

Again I'm not saying he's not a good coach, but I don't think he's the second coming like some people are acting. We can revisit in 2-3 years and if I'm wrong I'll say I'm wrong.

His first college coaching job at San Diego he went 29-6. He is good.

Whenever I see another big school (like Michigan) get a big hire, it always makes me wonder how far the ripple effect will apply. Do we have many recruits that would be affected by that hire? Kids like Kirkland Jr perhaps?

Plethora of information on Kirkland in, you guessed it, the Kirkland thread. But to sum it up for you, he is at an all star game then immediately flying to UT as an early enrollee to start classes on 01/07/15.

I think we, as well as everyone else, should be thankful Michigan had to wait so long to get their guy. If JH had time to recruit, I'd be more worried.

Personally, I think this impacts Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, etc., a lot more than it does UT. Even with CUM's emphasis on recruiting the Southeast at Ohio State, the bulk of their commitments are from the Midwest area. I believe Michigan will continue to heavily recruit that area too and Ohio State, in particular, will no longer have an tight grip on recruiting Ohio, etc. So, I think Ohio State and CUM will have to work harder to recruit the Ohio, etc., area players with Harbaugh at Michigan. With a big name hire like Harbaugh, however, there is a threat of a national recruiting juggernaut. Even with a more national reach, UM will only sporadically pull high level players from California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc. All in all, I like the hire because CUM will have a challenge now and it will negatively impact OSU and will only slightly threaten UT, etc., in rebuilding.

The ripple effect at FLA is that it will be much more difficult to beat them now. McIlwain (sp?) will do a good job there I believe. Amazing how the worst management/AD decisions in the history of UT coincided with the worst three years in FLA football since before Spurrier and we couldn't grab a single win against them while most of the rest of the SEC was using and abusing them as tackling dummies! I do think it will be FLA and UT battling for the east again though.
