With Harbaugh headed to Michigan...

And when Michigan St. punched them in the mouth... yeah OSU won this year, but with Franklin coming on board and if Harbaugh comes, and Maryland and Rutgers actually looking not terrible, the eastern division of the B1G looks pretty stout, with 3-4 potentially elite teams and 2-3 teams that aren't terrible.... and Indiana.

However, comparing this with Tennessee is a bit of a stretch. This was a perfect storm situation, and I just don't think that was going on when Kiffen or Dooley left the program. Harbaugh, a famous alum (he didn't suck at Michigan), is looking to be out of a job and Michigan just so happened to be ousting their previous guy. It was a pretty good match. I also somewhat disagree with the notion that Harbaugh will ever get control over a team. That has almost always historically went horribly whenever a coach was handed the reigns for teams. See Ditka as the main example. NFL coaches just do not make good GM's.

It's why Saban came back, and why I think Harbaugh comes back and stays. If you want complete control over your franchise, stay in college, if you want more money and notoriety, go Pro. Yes, I know 8 million, and I look for guys in the Pros who regularly are knocking on the door to the Super Bowls to get similar raises as well.

The story is that Mich wanted a home run hire n not someone that would take 4yrs to win. They want championships not just bowl games..

Hart n cheek had their chance n blew it on a home run hire. They decided bowl games instead of champuonships..

Remember hart looking into the camera n saying he's got this??? What a freaking joke.

This is not an anti cbj comment btw

Barely a comment at all...big mess fella! :yuck:

We have visited most of the U.S. Along with most of Michigan, next to God's country in East Tennessee, nothing compares, including the Cali coast, redwoods, Napa, and Ron Burgundy land- San Diego.
C'mon fellas'. With all my world travels and (Oh! Lord! No!) having lived in sunny SoCal (Cry to Heaven...Hollywood most of that time), I've discovered that a "If it ain't like me, it ain't no good" perspective is universal, and y'all aren't any different in laying the hate on LA or NYC or Europe (Yerp, to y'all) than folks from other regions. It's OK. I love my home Tennessee the most, but I'm biased, as are the rest of y'all. Somehow I picked up on drinking in the rest of the world, instead of insulating myself because of a common fear of hating what I didn't quite understand. None of it's heaven, where I'm bound and I hope the rest of y'all are too. Happy New Year, dear VFLs.

Somebody is mad JH is leaving his NFL team.

Don't blame him. Blame the front office for running him off.

Lol Not even a little mad, just speaking facts. He had 2 crap years and 1 good and 1 great year in college. He had pretty much ran his course in San Fran, his and the front office's fault. I appreciate the work he did in SF, but his development of Kaep was terrible and I was ready for a change. I'm just hoping they get someone that can get him improving.

To be fair Bo is a bit of a **** stick, that didn't help his cause.

Yep, I agree now. At first I was completely floored they fired him, but as I got some retrospect after the initial shock, I completely understand.

He had a horrible tendency to show his "soft" side every time they lost ugly and everyone called him out on it (think UCLA's comeback last year). I think the front office had enough of his tantrums that they showed him the door, knowing this was his ceiling (which is not all that hard to hit for anybody at this point). I honestly think this next guy is a place holder and they will get their future guy (Frost?) as a coordinator/head coach in waiting. At least I'm sure that is what they are hoping for.

Kirkland's an EE, Harbaugh won't have his staff put together by the time Kirkland is on campus in all likelihood. It's also unlikely that he would change anyways if you followed the kid's recruitment, he was committed to the coaching staff at Michigan because of the relationship he had with that staff.

Who knows for sure how well Harbaugh will do at Michigan, if he really ends up there. Remember how well another big name coach from the pros, Charlie Wiss, did after taking over at Notre Dame? If he accepts the Michigan job, let him rule Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

except Harbaugh has actually had a lot of success as a college head coach.

No offense, but you are by far and away the worst poster on VN. I am embarrassed you actually graduated from UT (if you actually did because you have the grammar and spelling skills of a elementary school kid).

Michigan wanted Championships so they gave an enormous amount of money to someone who in fact has never won a championship. Good call.

If I am a Michigan fan I am ecstatic but every single December his name will pop up for EVERY NFL (with the exception of the titans) . They will be miserable till every vacancy if full.
Look how many VolNationers flipped out over the Butch/Michigan rumors. imagine what it will be like on their boards.

Agree. Harbaugh knows how to win at both levels. Only thing is he has saw most of his success on the West Coast, I don't think that matters but how he fits in with the culture at Michigan will be interesting. I know he is a former player but he has that personality that can be grating. I think UM has a slam dunk though if Harbaugh is the guy.

I actually think he will want to win it all at the college level before going back to the pros. I do think it would be interesting if the right opening came up and he had a shot at total control.

I could easily see Kirkland going back to Michigan if Harbaugh comes calling. That was where he wanted to go in the first place. He chose us due to Hoke leaving. Not saying he automatically de-commits but it would not be a big surprise.

It's a dead period right now and doesn't end until Jan 3....four days before Darrin starts classes at Tennessee. Not saying it can't happen, just isn't very likely given the timing.

Check out what Stanford was like before he got there. Completely misleading. It was no accident Stanford was really good after he left.

I still see only a few teams willing/able to pay these elite coaching amounts.

Earlier I made a 'speech to text' error and got hmanvolfans usual humor
and GAVOL being his usual...(huh hmmm)... self, but would appreciate thoughts or concerns.

It seems the facilities arms race has already affected some teams, could these types of salaries hurt the parity we still have or will we see growing ticket prices etc. from schools in an attempt to keep up?
