This team is mature, it's experienced, it's ready to win.

...and who's playing behind them? ...and who are we going to depend on to score? Doesn't matter. It is what it is and I have other things to do now. We will see when the season is played out. Not before.

Some of you are saying that 10-2 regular season is negative. I disagree. My prediction is 10-2 with us then losing to LSU. Doesn't mean it is negative, just keeping realistic expectations.

It is very possible we go 11-1 and beat LSU in Atlanta. If we predict to go 12-1 and get beat in NC, is that negative? Some think so, but I do not. JMO

We've been hyped a few times the last few years (prematurely). I think people (fans) are trying to be overly cautious with it going into this year.

I usually tend to be overly optimistic with expectations. I've tried to temper them this season, but as it draws nearer, it grows.

My negativity comes from what I've seen on the field over the past 3 years. We've gone from 5 to 6 to 8 regular season wins, which is a good improvement until you realize we beat Vandy to improve from 5 to 6, then a bad Mizzou and a Chubb less UGA to go from 6 to 8.

I question coaching decisions such as running the hurry up against OU in the 4th when we knew we couldn't stop their blitz. Giving Peterman his 1st start in the Swamp and leaving him in when it was clear he couldn't handle it. Giving Peterman his 2nd start against Bama. Not going for the TD against OU. Not going for 2 against UF. The complete failure to develop a passing game and keeping Azzanni. The defense fall aparts last year didn't lead to Janeck leaving, his off field conduct did. Butch brought in a friend and a yes man who had retired from football for OC. Pulling a Dooley against Mizzou in 2014 when we got the ball before the half with over a minute to go and he just ran the clock instead of trying to push the ball down the field.

This year we have a talented team, but so does Bama, UF, UGA, and aTm. I don't think we're going to win 10 games and the East even with a talented team and a good D coordinator. When Butch gets up on a good, talented team and decideds to keep his foot on the gas then I'll think he can win.

1. Who's playing behind our junior and senior starters? Like every other team in the country, some underclassmen. Fortunately, a lot of those underclassmen are experienced, second year guys who played a ton of football last year....guys like PWill, Jennings, Jones, K Mac, Tuttle.

2. Who are we depending on to score? Are you serious asking this question?....here's your answer :

Senior Dobbs
Junior Hurd
RS Junior Kamara
Junior Wolf
Junior Malone
RS Junior Smith
RS Sr Croom

Btw....Dobbs, Hurd and AK had a hand in 43 of our 49 (89.6%) offensive touchdowns last year. I and the entire free world expect something similar this year. So, when you ask the question "and who are we going to depend on to score", and you talk about all the youth on team 120, with all due respect, I gotta start wondering if you actually watch the team play. You don't really seem to know much about them.

I'm supposed to be working but I had to log in to agree with you here. I'm beginning to wonder if Butch is too nice! the guy is doing it the right way. The drawn out methodical hard way. Building for long term success, but I'm beginning to wonder if the guy is just too nice to play cut throat with some of these other coaches. I mean, they are not about doing it "the right way", the rest of these guys will stab you in the back and leave you bleeding in the street and call it a good day. All this new school run around playing hide and seek "nana booboo you can't catch me" isn't going to last when you start getting late in the season. At some point you are going to have to get mean. I talking mad dog rabid cruel hearted. I understand Butch hasn't had the man power to get that mean before and I'm quite frankly Gawd smacked at what he has been able to do. But yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if, when it comes down to it, does he understand he is going to have to step on some throats and absolutely kill someone on the field of play to win in this league?

You should get back to work. The bull**** seems to be piling up.

Apparently we see things differently. What is an acceptable regular season record for you this fall? Will you be ok if we only win 7 and go to the Music City bowl?

We absolutely see things differently. And i'll be stunned if we only win 7 games. Barring a tremendous amount of injuries that won't happen.
To all but a few extremely jaded "fans" it's clear UT has come a very long way. My goodness man, how long has it been that UT has been in the discussion of a national championship by the National media?
Yes, we see things a lot different.

Wait a minute. If there are only a few extremely jaded fans, was your original post an "honest question" then? Because you stated there is so much negativity.

A whole lot closer than you would like to think. You started a thread so you could argue with anyone who has a slightly different viewpoint. You didn't really want an answer. Same thing D4H does.

No sir. Not even close.
UT has come leaps and bounds from where we were when Jones took over. Yet some seem to think things are bad. I was curious why some see things so gloomy. For instance your buddy 08.

I know for me personally, it's difficult to allow myself to itch with positivity too much. It's been so long since we have won 10 or more games, beaten Florida or Bama, beaten a top ranked team, and been relevant in general that I feel like a dog who has been kicked around a lot. Now I'm being told to come and let myself be petted because everything is alright and no one has proven that to me yet. If we make it to our open week with 2 losses or less then I'll let someone pet me. (I didn't set out to continue on with this dog analogy, but it seemed to work well.)

Well Barked! Now sit! Roll over! :hi:

If you're not one then why are you posting?

Actually I'm not one at all. I was critical of Jones at times, but he has mostly won me over. I'm excited about this season. First time I have been in quite a while.

My question to you that you so clumsily avoided, was why start a thread asking why there is SO much negativity when in the same thread you say there are only a few jaded fans that don't agree with you?

I was wondering if this was the intent of the op.
No profound answer, some people just have really negative personalities.
For all the times "JUST win" will be posted, it will take less than an hour after winning for a "we didn't win by enough" thread.
I always want to see improvement but I also just enjoy football.
How some make it a passion while being miserable for the whole process is beyond me. But I have given up concerning myself with such. People gonna people.
