With all the good things that's happened and happening for the UT football program. Why is there so much negativity by our own fans on this (and other) site? Honest question.

I don't think there is a lot of negativity. More of being realistic and not making claims of "15-0.....book it"

I know for me personally, it's difficult to allow myself to itch with positivity too much. It's been so long since we have won 10 or more games, beaten Florida or Bama, beaten a top ranked team, and been relevant in general that I feel like a dog who has been kicked around a lot. Now I'm being told to come and let myself be petted because everything is alright and no one has proven that to me yet. If we make it to our open week with 2 losses or less then I'll let someone pet me. (I didn't set out to continue on with this dog analogy, but it seemed to work well.)

I find when talking with Vol fans that aren't on message boards, they are much more positive and optimistic.

We're not all bad people.

It's the agony of defeat. Some think it will hurt less to lose if they don't expect to win.

Wrong, as a fan of the Vols, anytime we lose you will be in agony and second guessing.

The way we have lost in the past has fed the line of thinking "got to see it to believe it".

To each his own, but it is a poor reflection on Volnation to lower expectations just to ease the pain when we lose a game.

CBJ has brought us out of our darkest days, but there is more work to complete this restoration. I hope CBJ is capable of letting go his conservative nature, last year it was a hinder to the success of the team. Truth be told, this team is so stacked I don't think CBJ being conservative will stop us from getting to Tampa. Some games may be closer than they should be, but we still come out with the W.

Even if every metric proves we should lose a game, it will hurt your feelings when it happens.

The real question: How long can we keep our win streak going?

This stuff happens every year in the off-season. If a posters says 15-0, he/she is criticized for being too gung-ho. If a posters says 9-3 they're considered scared.

It doesn't really matter what any of us think as none of us are playing in the games.

Personally, 15-0 is doable, but 9-3 is also a reality. If UT loses to UF to open "the stretch" then I could easily see UT dropping 2 out of the next 3. If UT beats UF and gets that monkey off its back, then 4-0 is possible.

This is easily the most positive preseason outlook I've seen for the program since 2007 and it's almost as positive as I've seen it since the 90s. I don't know what else people want.

I'm in between 12-2

I agree there has been way more positives since CBJ has become coach but still there is room for improvement. I think this team will win 10-11 games in the regular season but can go undefeated if things go the right way.

Some fans want to be negative or say stuff just to troll. They seek attention is all.

Both sides exist in all fan bases. People want to act like this is exclusive to Vol fans. It isn't. I work with a Bama fan(unfortunately)who has had them losing three games every year for as long as I can remember. I work with another one (more unfortunately) that expects them to win every game.

People are different. That's a fact of life. I think 15-0 is a realistic possibility. I also don't think 10-2 is a failure. Some people will agree with me and some will think I'm an idiot. Neither would necessarily have to be wrong.

Experience has taught Vol fans to be Cautiously Optimistic, no doubt.

People have to remember that we've got a lot of fans under 25 that likely don't have it ingrained in their brains what a dominant brand of Tennessee football even looks like.

I'm not seeing much "negativity".
What I'm seeing is that the vast majority of Vol fans are wise enough to temper their enthusiasm with a modicum of reserve because experience teaches that things don't always work out as they should.

With threads about our coach needing to do certain things to keep his job to our OC being less than respected quite often to our QB not being as good as he actually is etc.
Sad part GA is you're right. It is better than it has been but still quite a bit of negativity.

No reason to be negative. 5 wins, 7 wins, 9 wins,...it's going in the right direction. But no one should have their feelings hurt if some of us don't jump on the 15-0 train. We're not there yet.

I never said this is exclusive to UT.
