Wiseman ineligible

No they don't. Facts whether you like it or not. Penny has helped hundreds of families, maybe more. It had nothing to do with the NCAA. The booster bylaw is very vague. They won. We should do the same. Maybe there should be a class action lawsuut.
What did “they” win, exactly? Their best player is currently ineligible pending investigation and likely suspension. And his team may have to vacate an early season win as a result of his lawsuit and participation.

Because it could have been drawn out for a lengthy time, and both sides want a decision. The hearing on Monday was just for the injunction and not on the merits.

If the NCAA was just going to deem him ineligible, investigate on their time, and consider a lengthy suspension, then that’s what you got. The lawsuit speeds up the timeline, and Wiseman is willing to sit for several games as long as it gets done. If he only gets 6, then he’s back for UT.

Wiseman and the university don’t want this over their heads every televised game, and the NCAA doesn’t want the publicity hit (which people can argue all day long but there is some backlash against the NCAA).
Okay, then that tells me that Wiseman didn’t have the NCAA by the nuts like many seemed to believe. And now he has no control over the situation. He’s still sitting out pending investigation and awaits a suspension. That doesn’t sound like leverage, to me. That sounds like backing down and simply taking what’s coming to him. He could have done that from the beginning and saved himself and the university the potential black eye with the NCAA, whom we both know doesn’t take kindly to be shouted down.

I never said he would prevail with his lawsuit. It merely created an advantage. I will just leave it at that.

Fair enough. We can agree to disagree on this one. I just fail to see this created advantage. The way I see it, he is in the exact place he would have been had he just cooperated in the first place, except now the NCAA has an agenda due to his insubordination.

If Wiseman gets to play anywhere or any amount of time, the NCAA should rewrite the rules. How bout on transfers. If a booster pays for a player to transfer, depending on the amount, say 500 one game suspension, over 10000 10 game suspension. Fair is fair. somebody pay Uros.

Wiseman is different than the University. The lawsuit (likely) got Wiseman more game action, regardless of whether the games get forfeited.

Whether the lawsuit was advantageous for the University... We'll see.

Per Wiseman’s attorneys...

“It has become clear to Mr. Wiseman that the lawsuit he filed last week has become an impediment to the University of Memphis in it’s [sic] efforts to reach a fair and equitable resolution with the NCAA concerning his eligibility status. Therefore, Mr. Wiseman advised his legal team that he wished to withdraw his lawsuit. There will be no further comment at this time.”

If it was all about a Wiseman, then he should have just continued forcing the NCAA to allow him to play by not dropping the suit. He’s only going to miss time, now, because he dropped the suit. It got him two extra games on the front end, but it is going to cost him 4, 6, 9 (?) games on the back end.

I agree he has now just P'd off the NCAA and will likely pay for it somehow. Had he cooperated, maybe just maybe he has a more positive outcome. Maybe he still will, but I figure it will be much tougher now.

I think the University talked him into backing down once they got a deal.

If we're starting at 9 games (30%) and got it bumped to 5, that's a win for him.

Think the university will pay more than he will. He will still be drafted early even if he doesnt play another second this year.

I think the statements being issued are basically cover for the NCAA as part of said deal. It gets them in better light as an authority and away from legal proceedings while Wiseman & the UofM get quick resolution and clarity on the punishment. Go figure that a negotiation might yield desired results for all parties given the circumstances.

James Wiseman dropped the lawsuit..so that the school and the NCAA can come to some sort of understanding about how long he may sit.
IF the school and James' legal team don't think that its a fair solution...they reserve the right to re-file the lawsuit...in which the NCAA will get absolutely hammered.
The legal team is headlined by Leslie Ballin (rhymes with ALLEN, not ALL-N) Steve Farese, and James? Fishman....several of Memphis's finest and toughest litigators in the state of Tennessee...much less Memphis,TN.
Farese and Ballin got a Brownsville,TN woman off after she murdered her preacher husband a few years back by shooting him in the back.
It came out that she had been a victim of a Nigerian 419 scam...and her legal team concocted some type of slanderous treatment of her by her husband...who I again remind you was a preacher of the church in their community.

James's lawsuit and injunction actually AIDED the University of Memphis...as the school was insulated from him playing in the early season games.
For him NOT to have played...Memphis would have been found in contempt of court.

Not true...he still has the option of re-filing his lawsuit if he and his legal team don't like the terms that the school and NCAA hammer out.
Contrary to what you have heard....James's legal team is top notch...the NCAA was about to get hammered.

They told him he was eligible to play. Penny and the school told them about the earlier help that was given.
Then NCAA comes back and tell the school that the certification of being eligible was given "in error", but that they would honor it anyway.
Then the NCAA comes back and says he's not eligible...after telling the kid they WOULDN'T do this.
James could have signed a pro contract...played overseas making major money for a season...until he became the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft...and the NCAA at that point had taken that away from him with this ruling.
Zion Williamson was put up in a $500,000 home by Duke...Duke investigates...say they find nothing wrong ..and the NCAA said "Okie dokie".
No major fuss pitched.
This is the second time within a 10-12 year period where Memphis has signed the nation's #1 recruit..and the NCAA screwed us over.
The first time this happened..the NCAA declared Derrick Rose eligible THREE TIMES.

Actually they were from Selmer and he had been abusing her for years!

I would imagine they will be officially 0-1. Will have to vacate any wins Wiseman participated in.

The injunction protected the University of Memphis from having to forfeit any games.
If Memphis had not played him...they could have been held in contempt of court.
Wiseman's lawsuit named Memphis AND the NCAA as defendants...because Memphis is a NCAA member institution.
